I'll sign for the principle of it, but Project M is not competing with Smash 4 and this doesn't belong here probably, but that's up to a mod to decide.

EDIT: I was going to direct you to where you should have posted this, but then I realized you just copy/pasted this thread in every forum that wasn`t locked, which I would like to add, is considered spamming. As you may know, spamming is bad.

Thanks to Project M, I'm not worried about Smash 4 at all. Sakurai could fill the roster with Mii's and make it even less competitive than Brawl, and I still wouldn't care. I'm legitimately more excited for PM 3.0 than I am for Smash 4!

So you should hop on this hype train, too. Way easier than trying to get a petition noticed. 8)

I gree with Chzrm3. Whoever expects smash 4 to be a competitive game is doomed to be woefully disappointed
Nintendo has never ever cared for competitive scene, what makes you think they will now?
In fact they've been so discouraging that getting streaming rights for smash tournaments is a task of epic proportions
But alas... we can finally shut up about it because P:M is going to fill that void
Please don't bother me when smash 4 comes out, I will probably be busy playing the best game ever

CHU DAT. Sakuri has even said that he does these things like removing streaming rights just because "I want to avoid a situation where the game is only appreciated by a small group of maniacs."

wait, what? that doesn't even make sense? "i don't want free exposure for my game because then only certain people will enjoy it"? sakurai logic, you make no sense...

Where is that quote? I definitely want to see that. That's a ****ed up thing for him to say.

No, Sakurai just means a wide variety of people should be playing, not just the most hardcore. Here it is in context:

Sakurai: We wanna avoid a situation where it becomes a game sort of like other competitive fighting games, where it's only appreciated by a very small, passionate group of sort of maniac players. We definitely don't want that sort of situation. It's supposed to be a fun game for a wide variety of people.

But that's not to say that I don't appreciate very high-level competitive play, the type of very refined competitive gameplay that happens in other fighting games. Personally, I have a lot of experience playing in the arcade scene, and personally came out as a champion of a 100-person battle in arcade Street Fighter II.

Kotaku: Recently?

Sakurai: A long, long time ago. So I don't wanna ignore that there's that type of pleasure to be had from the game.

Sakurai doesn't even have any clue as to what he's doing with his own game though. We can sign all the "more competitive" petitions all we want, but that's not going to happen until he at least actually figures out how to cater to that in the first place.

- A game can be extremely competitive and user friendly at the same time. Last time I checked even the most casual players mostly prefer Melee as far as Smash goes. The only reason most of those casuals don't play Melee anymore is because it isn't "the new game", and that is a fact.

- Literally almost everyone that's ever played SF2 competitively calls themselves "champions" at the game. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeVN3OjFThQ

its sad to know that Sakurai believes that Brawl is the best smash game because its easy, uncompetitive, boring, and slow. that is what he wants in the perfect smash game.

Ug I hate all you tourney tards, smash bros is a PARTY GAME, its not supposed to be competitive. Out of the whole series brawl is the best, by miles. You have more characters and modes, along with more levels and final smashes. I hate when you tourney tards come and force your competitive bs on us average players, if you want to play a competitive fighter, go play MvC. Brawl is a perfect game, it took everything wrong with melee and fixed it, while making the game better. I hope smash 4 is not competitive and that it goes in the same direction that brawl did, but all of you nerds want to change it into something that it is not. I liked smash balls rather than a smash meter because it leveled the playing field, and along with tripping it helped bring about more balance beyond just character balance. And I enjoyed the mercy final smash, it made it so that you can be on even footing with someone who is better than you. I hope smash 4 will be more like brawl, and not like melee, melee was too hard and you fall too fast, and it doesn't have olimar.

Well why can`t casual and competitive play co-exist? You can have your Brawl and we can have our Project M. In my opinion, neither is superior to the other, they just cater to different audiences. You can go have fun with your Party game and we will go have fun with our Fighting game, how about that? There is no reason for you to go badmouthing us by calling us "tourny tards" when we haven`t done anything to you.

You guys want smash 4 to be casual and we want smash 4 to be like melee where it was casual and competitive at the same time. there are pros and cons in both of our opinions.

from how I see it, I want compromise while you want to stir up trouble in a thread you shouldn`t care about or even be in if you hate melee and Project M that much. How are we shoving competitiveness down the casuals throat when we are discussing this in a COMPETITIVE FORUM. If we were really shoving it down your throat then we would be posting forums in the brawl general discussion like "BRAWL SUX AND MELEE IZ BETTER", but we don`t (at least, the polite ones), we keep competitive discussion in forums made for competitive discussion.

It was a satire, I didn't think anyone was gonna bite, I thought the thing on tripping gave it away. Believe me I think brawl is complete donkey shit, melee was way better, and pm is way better than melee. I would gladly take a competitive smash 4 anyday

You just got trolled dude...

This reminds me of when fans sometimes complain that casual gamers playing Fighting games is (somehow) ruining the genre. They think that focusing only on hardcore elements, even if to the detriment of appealing to wide audiences, will solve this "problem". They forget that game developers are interested in making money. A couple thousand (at most) tournament players have far less buying power than 200,000+ gamers who buy the game, play it for a couple weeks, then mostly forget about it.

Melee and Brawl were both mega-successes, but Brawl - which emphasized casual appeal - sold about three million more copies than Melee. Coincidence? It's possible, but the game designers would not see it as such. Kinda like how most people blame Street Fighter III's relative lack of success partly on how very steep a learning curve it had, even in arcade mode.

Obviously, a game can appeal to both casuals and tourney players. But, this can be quite difficult with limited development time. If the two are difficult to reconcile with the game's theme, you can't blame people for focusing on the audience that will profit them more.

I agree with you completely, but when you say that Brawl sold more then Melee, I believe that Brawl sold more because of Melee. Take Sonic 06 as a example, that game is a Xbox 360 Platinum hit just because its a sonic game.

I think Street Fighter III is a good example of taking it too far - a lot of casuals probably didn't find the game enjoyable at all.

Smash has always been perfect at balancing that, though. In all three games, there was always plenty for casuals to do and enjoy. That's why it's a little sad that they felt the need to gut the competitive edge of Smash in Brawl. It really wasn't necessary - I imagine if Brawl had Melee's physics and razor-sharp gameplay, it still would've sold 11 million copies. The appeal for casuals was in the enormous roster, the story mode, and all the extras the game came with. They kind of just burned the tourney crowd without gaining anything.

I actually think, if anything, they lost sales by making Brawl so noncompetitive. I can't imagine a casual going "Oh, well I'm NOT going to buy Brawl even though it added 14 characters and a story mode, because there's wavedashing in it!!!!" But I can easily see a more competitive player saying "Yeah, I'm not gonna buy Brawl because I wouldn't enjoy competing in it."

I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, though. I doubt there's anyone on this board that doesn't feel this way already, haha.

Dear OP,

Don't make petition threads and then spam them around the site, especially in boards that don't have anything to do with what you're petitioning for (AKA this board).

As a heads up, I've locked them all since petition threads are generally useless anyway.
