Basically you need to position yourself so that when your side-b ends, you'll be on one of the edges of a platform. On battlefield from the ledge, jump backwards basically as far as you can, then side-b. Also on BF you can cancel it by running off the inner edge of a platform and immediately illumining to the other side. Thats how he does it twice in a row. Once you get a feel for it, you'll be able to use it on more stages.

It's performed like this: after you side b, you gain some momentum as you drift towards the ground in free fall. But, some people figured that if you understood the length of the side b and used it such that the end part (where you're in free fall) clips off a platform, you will suffer zero free fall and you are free to perform an attack or anything after it.

You're basically using the very tip of the side b to slightly slide off the edge of the platform, to platform cancel.
