You don't necessarily have to MM people like KDJ did. It is a great incentive to play at your best, but you can do that otherwise for free when you play friendlies. If you're confident with your ability to outplay your opponents then by all means throw down some money. If you're nervous now about losing money then I would suggest do friendlies instead. You should be playing to learn, not win.

Well you can bet a drink, a macdonald or anything like that on a couple of matches. Even if you lose you will have a good time efter that.

Your retina to your occipital lobe as you read.
Mostly all players don't give it their all when playing friendlies, but I still wouldn't money match people like KDJ did.

There's other ways to get people serious to play you without you having to reach into your wallet. You can manipulate them by pulling on their pride, making them feel like they need to win in hopes of proving you wrong (You'd look like a loser though).

If you dislike the idea of minor trashtalk, you can go with the cheaper version of a money match like PUK said, bet a Soda on a best of 7 or something. Or if its against a friend that's pissibly better than you, bet on silly things like who gets the front seat shotgun when going for a drive or something.

I seriously doubt money matches are necessary to become good though, heck some brawl competitive players started out as online players and one of those even won Apex 2013.

im not nervous of losing money. Well not at all ,but i want to get the best of the other player so i can study their playstyle. specially cause we have the best player of the country in our area. adyou know i have seen the way of pulling on their pride, making them feel like they need to win in hopes of proving you wrong and stuff like that but speciallybecause there are some players that are ..sell pretty agresive i do mostly that with my friends but no one can beat me si this is why i want to money match

I'm pretty sure KDJ had the money to blow. It's not the path I would recommend taking, but is a path.

Althernatively, you could just pay Mr. R or ZeRo or someone some cash for a training session.

Only money match at big/crucial events. I planned on money matching a lot of people when I first started getting into competitive smash (not totally uninspired by KDJ) but people at locals tend to be pretty casual still, and even the better players like to **** around.

But at bigger tournaments, people are more hungry for high-tension matches. Either to prepare for future matches in the day or distant future, hot off a loss.

It was also much more important in the melee days due to fewer opportunities to actually play. Since you can now play online and more efficiently get used to matchups, your characters feel, and situations, I'd suggest money matching mostly as a way to try learning specific matchups, or playing against specific players who give you hard times (regardless of whether or not you generally beat them) And of course getting used to tournament jitters.

yeah thats true ther is going to be a big tournament here and a king of the hill side evnt that people bet 25 cents on them vs the champio the if you win the champion you will have to win 5 matches and if you win that you will win the money until that point

That sounds neat. Seems like a callback to the classic "everybody huddled around the arcade machines" of old and a blackjack table (I was gonna say a slot machine because you have the chance of winning the money back but there's actual skill required here, more than blackjack even).

Also, the risk is low at just a couple quarters rather than a major money match.

I'm planning on doing it more. Our high level players are perfectly open to friendlies but sometimes mms are so rampant it's hard to get in. Plus I like the idea of playing full tournament sets against them, for the experience.

so after researching a bit on my local scene its seems that the top players around here dont play too often online because they are more limited to their movement option and such things
