Well looks like ur just starting. First practice ur short hops. Remember to push as light as possable. After u get it perfect then practice fast falling. This is real easy just jump and when u get to the top of ur jump push down on the control stick. Now after u mastered that then jump, press b then press down. Experament with it so u get the laser as low as possable but still mantaining a fast speed. Hope this helped u out.

If you hear the gun click but no laser comes out, just press b earlier (I had that problem a lot). Once you get used to the SHL then start to dash into them for it is a great approach. Good luck.

for the jump when your pushing it It seems to work for me if I roll my finger off one of the sides instead of just trying to push the whole thing lightly.

idk where ppl are getting this notion of "light" button presses, but a short hop is defined by jump and the jump command must be released previous to one frame before the jump starts.

so for falco (6 frame jump)
press x/y/up/r or l and c-up then release within 5 frames.

it's solely about speed of pressing the button. the way i short hop (for shl at least) is by sliding my finger off the bottom of the x button.

Pour some beer on either the X or Y button to make it defective. That should make it easier to Short hop. Hell. it worked for me =P

Pretty sure pouring liquids onto your controller doesn't make you short hop.
If you play like me and jump with joystick, up then down real fast. Simple as that.
