the dog,the dog he's at it again!
Okay I stated using Falco about 2 months ago and my Falco is okay, but I need to work on approaching with SHL. Every time I do it I SHL 2 or 3 times and then falco turns around but I am pressing down not to the side, does anyone know why this happen? Sorry if this has been asked before. =/

Oh yeah and I guess I should add this in, what' s a good way to practice the pillar technique?

I personally don't know if theres any reason why you turn around but all I could think fo was that you are hitting the control stick slightly to the side without realizing it therfore turning around. Sorry couldn't give you a better anwser

I have all forms of SHL down really well. Still working on pillar'ing... but just being able to SHFFL and SHL with Falco will give you enough game to be fairly competitive. If your falco is turning around, then your inputting the other direction into the control stick, maybe after your landing? Just go to practice mode on Final Destination (or any other level but Final D. has more room to practice, and its like Falco's "home court") and dance around SHL'ing. It's actually pretty easy to get down. Reverse SHL's I find to be really handy and worth getting down too.

Quick questing of my own... is pillaring when you Shffl a dair into a shield and then shine to dair to shine to dair? Or is it the term for the shine dair shine dair (or shine shine dair... blah blah) combo's? Or is it both =D

your pushing it the wrong side. that could be the only reason. lol.. good way to practice pillaring is against a shield. or play against a cpu with low handicap so the cpu doesn't even flinch when getting hit. and also practice pillaring while just standing. make sure you get the l cancel and fastfall correct or else pillaring is kinda lousy but still works.

Pillaring IS a shield pressure tactic. It consists of shine, dairing the shield at the top of the jump or after you're falling and towards the middle of the shield, then l cancel and repeat. If you hit the shield too early with the dair, you can get grabbed out, that's why you want to hit it later in your short hop.

A reason that you're turning around could be due to the fact that your controller isn't broken in properly. I know when I buy a new controller I have to play for hours to brake it in. The problem is that its so new that it attempts to stay at neutral position as much as possible, so it snaps back too hard causing the game to register you pressing the other direction.

GG7 is exactly correct on Pillaring.

Otherwise, a dair shine to *insert aerial* is just an combo. It doesn't necessarily have specific name.

whoo! the great mathos said i got it right! yeahhhh!!!! : )

also, for PRACTICING pillar, i would say either A fight a handicapped bowser or a better option if you have an actoin replay there's an infinite shield code and you can tape down the R button on the other controller and practice against their shield. only problem with that is you won't know for sure if you're doing it fast enough so you can have a friend hold the button and try and grab randomly. if he/she gets shine'd or daired when they try to grab then you're doing good. if not then keep practicing lol

If you want to practice pillaring, play with stars. When the computer gets a star the invincibility acts as a shield lag would. Try it out.

For pillars I like to put bowser on lvl 9 handicap, while im on lvl 1, and than turn to damage ratio to .5 and just keep on pillaring on him from like 0-700%. Of course the shield lag is slightly different so you have to compensate, but it speeds up your fingers to the point that you'll be comfortable when doing it on a shield.

you are turning because you slightly press to the side. also you accidently tap up and diagonally to the opposite side when you try another shl after you did one

if you are SHL and facing right by accident, try pressing slightly to the left when you fast fall.

Just to add to that, I've found that going to training with a human partner makes practicing pillar a lot easier
