Really need some advice on how to master this maneuver. With this people can deliver pretty awesome combos! Tried practicing today, very little of my attempts were successful. HELP?

Dude... You asked the short hop question like four times. There are also video guides for wave shining.
You need to start off slow until you can do it consistently. Practice just wavedashing out of one shine.
Once you get that down try shine->wavedash->grab/up smash
When you're trying to do the wave shine chains you need to walk forwards a tiny bit in between each one.
It's also pretty important to be able to shine->wavedash-> shffl'd aerial (nair/dair)
But don't even worry about shine stuff until you get the basics down. Learn shffls and wavedashes first. They are far more important.
