Shield Dash Cancel? Perfect pivot with shield? What's he doing?

I was watching a video of ZeRo and I have a question regarding what he does in the video:
ZeRo Plays For Glory - Ep #5 Ganondorf - DISRESPECT Minute 9:27
he uses a shield while he does some kind of dash I tried a Shield Dash Cancel but I couldn't do it, I'm not sure if it's due to bad timing or if he is doing something else (like a perfect pivot). Please explain me this looks very useful for spaming players =(

Hey, zero's next to me and im going to type out his message for you here , lol.

it's actually not an advanced technique. I actually just shield release the shield, dash backwards and then move the stick back to make the character turn around while dashing and then shield out of that, the dash length is shorter in these conditions.
