I'm looking to pick up Lucas as a main, and I'm wondering if SHFFLing is completely outclassed by DJCFFLing. I still have some trouble short-hopping, so DJCing is a lot easier than SHFFLing for me, plus it seems to come out quicker and combo easier. If you can fast-fall L-cancel DJCs, is there any point to SHFFLing?

(This also applies to Ness)

Short answer: No, there are situations where different options are better, and you should learn to shorthop consistently instead of trying to find a shortcut around it.

if you are at shorthop height or higher, you usually want to fastfall. You can even djc fastfall aerials. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

First of all, I totally agree with @ Aceroth Aceroth you should learn how to short hop before you start doing anything else. I had some trouble short hop when I first started but you need to learn how to do it because short hopping is a very useful skill to have.

Second, there are different uses for both SHFFLing and DJCing. For example DJCing is helpful for doing moves like fair and up air, but not so good for bair. When you DJC a bair the animation does not come out fully. So there is a use for SHFFLing you just have to figure out what works for you. But I still think you should learn how to short hop first.
