Shffl Question/ Fox General Stuff Too

Hi guys, Im relatively new to smashboards. I'd first just like to introduce myself.:

My name is Kevin, I have been playing ssbm for quite some time now, but only recently started "advanced tactics" when i first heard about it from friend ( and because i want to be a better player of course). I'm in Ontario, just putting it out there so i can see how many people are in my region. I'm 17 years old, almost out of high school (yes!), moving onto college and university, hopefully to pursue video game development and computer sciences, and possibly learn Japanese,Chinese at the same time. Ssbm is the only console game I play since, me and my buddy always play it when we get together. O...I play with Shiek, Fox, and Falco.

Well now that you know me a bit. Can anyone answer my question?

I was wondering if anyone out there uses z instead of a to do their air attacks while shffling?
If not, is there a way of i mproving on my Fox Drills?

Waveshining... I just wanted to clear something up with myself, hope you guys can help out. There are two ways to waveshine right? One is to wavedash>shine or vice-versa? Anywho, is there a specific time where i have to wavedash after I shine? I know..I know. Put your controller to Netural position and than wavedash, but sometimes it works for me sometimes it doesn't! If anyone could clear this concept for me, I would be much appreciated.

I know these questions might of been asked before, but i did search the forum for this type of question.

Thanks alot.
Hope to be part of the community.

Edit: Big mistake, Looks like i;ve been here and posted before. A longg time ago. My bad.. Sorry. So im not that new than :)

sometimes i use z for aerial attacks when i want to jump and instantly perform a nair or something

when you shine, immediately wavedash as you would if you were just wavedashing alone without a shine, and then repeat

i found myself asking a lot of questions like this when i was a beginner, just practice, TRUST ME, you'll get it

Fox is cake when you put it next to that.

On using different buttons: ask yourself "am I comfortable doing it this way?" and "am I efficient doing it this way?"

If you said yes to both, then stick with it.

Waveshining refers to [shine -> wavedash out] The wavedash jump cancels the shine. You can jump cancel shine at any time. If you jump early enough for the wavedash, it allows you to just press down-b for the shine, instead of having to hold the b button to keep the shine up (If you don't jump early enough, you get that annoyingly laggy regular-put-down-shine animation).

Thanks for the tips/answers so far! I think I have gotten a bit better at doing waveshining with fox(and a bit with falco). I have one last question if someone could help out...

When I try and drill kick than l-cancel in a shffl or even when in a high jump, do you press L before you hit than ground AND when your drill ends? Or is it vice versa?

Thanks again.

Ps. Been practicing quite a bit with Fox And Falco :).

u have to press (L/R/Z) b4 u hit the ground

a trick when i first played was to hit the L at the same time i fast fell and aerialed (only really useable with most characters and if u short hop) its a trick someone on the boards posted but i forgot.. who...... thanks guy :)

You should stick to C stick for aerials. It's more reliable and allows you to control your movement at the same time with greater ease.

As far as wave shining goes, how are your wave dashes? Can you wave dash consistently? If not practice that first. If you can, just take it slowly (for wave shining) The timing for it is not very tricky to figure out, just fool around with it a little, and practice.

I wave shine by shining, then jump, then angle the control stick and finally air dodge. This makes it easier to wave dash backwards out of the shine.

So far so good! I've done a couple of Waveshines :), it will take time to develop thoe.... I can't C-stick while i SH its a bit tricky for me. I just use z or a. Been practicing alot against Humans And Computers. I find it hard to add everything I learn in "practice mode" to a real game or just game against computers. But i am getting there. Thanks to you guys.

As for SH drill shines, I can randomly do them..I havent got the timing on SH yet, but I can do the LH drill shines (which i believe is useless) most of the time. Again, it probably takes time. If someone has a method or right "timiing" to press l when SH drill shining, would you mind sharing?

One of my buddies is having a smash thing going on, hopefully ill do well ;). Ill see if we can film it so everyone can see the skills of my town ( O my...Its just the three of us that know advanced techniques )

Thanks again guys.

ps. Wilhelmsan - I Never knew learning japanese and chinese would be harder than mastering fox :(. I am asian thoe..It could help out!

Dont practice vs computers if u wanna get good, they never wv, edge hog and other stuff that humans do. But u can practice techniques against them. When u play vs a computer they tend to spam A? what the heck? If u can shine after your arial then you are L canceling.
