The only thing that you can do is just practice in Training Mode. We really can't give you any help with learning to Short Hop. Just press the button as fast as you can, and continually practice.

Don't press jump all the way down; just try to graze x/y as quickly as possible. I'd start at the point where you don't even jump at all and then work you're way up from there. And practice someplace with platforms so you can measure your distance. Other than that, what bloodmage said.

If I were you, I wouldn't train in training mode like Bloodmage said. You can't use the c-stick for aerials, which is much better than the a button IMO, but he is right about the only way you can better at that is practice. Just have a lvl 1 walk around under you, or just a human char without the human.

What he said ^^^^^.

Also, in case you didnt know, you can put it on time mode with infinite time. <---- hella lot better than 99 lives.

Also, at least for me, tapping the button is a lot more difficult. What you should do is put your thumb so that it's just touching the end of the X button, and then just push down slightly and quickly slide your thumb off the button. Gives a nice satisfying clicking noise, and is pretty easy after a bit of practice.

Is there any video or text that explains/shows the exact order in which a SHFFL must go?

The reason I say this is because I'm having trouble myself, mainly with trying to figure out if the L-Cancel must happen before your aerial attack animation finishes, and in what order and timing should the actual aerial attack and the fast fall occur.

Anything specific I should know when it comes to SHFFLing specifically with Sheik?

EDIT: Actually, my main question right now is the trick to short hop easier with Sheik, since she's got a tough short hop to pull off. When I say trick, also, I pretty much mean what you think is the best way to snap/push the X button to achieve the short hop most effectively.

I brush the edge of the X button with my thumb to SH with sheik but my brother has to tap it so I'd just try different approaches until you find what's good for you. Also I found it easier to learn SHFFLing in stages, first the SH, then add in the L canceling and once you get a feel for that add the FF in the middle. Also playing level 1 computers on infinite time has helped me a lot with my sheik in terms of speed both in the air and on the ground. Last thing I'll say is don't expect to get it right away, every person is different in how they learn and how quickly they learn.

Update: Been working on it all last night, I can SH by very quickly tapping the X button like you would push it normally. I don't like to graze the edge of it, it doesn't feel right to me. I'm still working on getting the L-Cancels down, needs a bit more time, after that, like you said, I'll add fast falls in the middle.

Don't worry, it hasn't ruined it for me. I still use Sheik, and am working on getting better whenever I have the chance.

Funny, too, how I instantly found my place when using Sheik. Seems to me like the character chooses the player, not the other way around! Like Harry Potter and the whole wand thing. (Who cares if Fox and Falco are higher in the Tier list? Sheik's the man! Uh, wait....)
