Personally ive been rooting for shantae since the smash ballot. I was introduced to her because of it and i tried the games n fell in love with the series. Obviously im biased because i want her but i feel like she actually has a chance this time around i mean people say if shovel knight didn't make it shantae wont however shantae and WayForward have a good relationship with nintendo being with them from the start of her series back 17 years ago while shovel knight is pretty new compared to that. Shes probably one of the females who have a chance in getting. She fills in a lot of boxes
1)Shes a female obviously. The two things were lacking are females and villains. I know shes another hero but we never get anymore females where theyre the main protagonist
2)Shes been around for 17 years she has been with Nintendo for a long time being on every Nintendo console since her debut
3)Her creators were very vocal about wanting her in the game even making her alternate skins for her in the game
4)Besides Bayonetta who won, Shantae was the only other female that was pretty high up there
5)Shes kind of the last hope for indie rep. Personally i feel like spirits dont deconfirm their chances of being a fighter especially with the arms speculation
And also i know this isnt anything very convincing however during the time they were choosing fighters for smash, The leader of WayForward actually met up with Sakurai and WayForward is very vocal to their fans it amazes me how they reply to many of their fan's comments but once the ballot ended and she showed up as a spirit they said their thanks than went quiet. They still reply 2 comments but when someone mentions smash bros theyre go quiet.
Idk im hoping for who but we'll see
