(I'm not sure if this deserves a thread or if there's a better place for it, so feel free to close/move this if needed)

So... I finally did something interesting for once. I've heard things like "X series is overrepresented" or "X character shouldn't be in because his series has enough characters". And while I don't think series should be limited for how much content they get, I tought it would be interesting to see how much representation each series gets. So I made a list of every series represeted in Smash, and, with the help of a calculator, I'm adding up all characters, stages, items, assistants, enemies, bosses, trophies, stickers and songs each series gets in Smash. Below, you can see a list of the score each series got (currently incomplete). Also, this doesn't include Smash Wii U, since we don't know everything about it yet. The series that are tied are ordered by alphabetical order.

Characters are worth five points
Stages are worth four points
Items and assistants are worth three points
Enemies and bosses are worth two points
Trophies, stickers and songs are worth one point

Representation is right where it should be. It looks like it goes in order of popularity, more or less. Mario, then pokemon, then zelda and the rest are all pretty close.

And btw, how long did it take to figure all this out? That's a lot of stuff to go through, you know...

It's interesting to see how much some series are represented and I somehow thing despite 3 playable characters and a lot of trophies, that Kid Icarus will not quite reach as much representation as we might think. It only has, what, 3-4 stages? No bosses, only a few assists.

My plan is to include every series in this list, even ones that only get one or two stickers and nothing more.

Kid Icarus got 165, which is only 3 more than Donkey Kong. So Kirby heavily outweights Kid Icarus.

KI has a lot of smash run enemies and a few items. That counts for something.

Edit: Nevermind, looks like it's right in the middle of the ones under kirby. It's still pretty close though, Kirby isn't that high compared to the big 3 either

Actually, I did it wrong. I counted 3 stages despite Wii U stages not being included, so Kid Icarus only has two stages. This means it has lost four points, and is now below Donkey Kong. However, it's only a single point below.

The rest is based around what section they appear in the trophy gallery/sticker album/sound test. However, there's some exceptions:

The banana peel and soccer ball are counted as both Smash and Mario items
The hammer is counted as both a Mario and Donkey kong item
The golden hammer is counted as both a Mario and Wrecking Crew item
Shy Guy and Magikoopa are counted as both Mario and Yoshi enemies

That makes the most sense. Seeing as the game actually does the categorizing part for us, it's best to just go off of that.

I doubt the Land series will have a single trophy in the Wii U version when it comes out.

Well we are talking about representation. So trophies and stickers and songs do matter. And stages should be a lot more as they are important, secondary to characters.

The point of my post is that the values are completely subjective. To me all that matters in a fighting game is the playable characters, they could put a million stickers in for DK and it still won't change the fact that I feel it was poorly represented.
