Because Ultimate is getting an update next week, and with it, it will erase your replays. I wanted to back up my replays onto my PC and use them for Youtube videos. But once I saved them to my SD card and tried exporting them, I tried rewatching them to make sure everything was fine, and I kept getting an error saying "Go back to the begining and try again". any way to fix this?

I don't think so. If it is anything like the Wii U version, you can't watch them on the PC. I know they are supposed to bring out an app or something for replays for the community. Other wise may need to do what I did with the Wii U. Get a recording device (like El Gato HD) and hook the Switch up to your PC with it and record that way. Sucks their isn't an easier way, I know...

There is a way to make your replays in to mp4s and save them to an SD card. Go to your vault and look at your replays - when you select one there should be a button that lets you convert to MP4.

For real?? I converted and thought it would show up in my share videos, but if I can take the card out and put the videos on computee that would be awesome!

I think they should have coded the replays to ignore the later update data instead of forcing us to either delete our replays or save them to a new format. My MicroSD card that I ordered is coming tomorrow because I need a MicroSD card to preserve my replays.

Though it depends, how do they write patches? Do they write a line of code that overrides the existing code or do they directly edit the code? Considering how the update patches aren't as big as the base game and digital software is separate from the update data in Data Management, I'm guessing it must be the former? But then why couldn't they get the replays to work? Nintendo couldn't figure out how to cancel out the overriding code for a replay?

The replays are initially stored as a list of inputs by each player. That way they don't take up much space. After you update, that same list of inputs will lead to a different result which is why replays are broken afterwards.

Yeah, replays are broken with the game updates. But maybe if the updates are just new lines of coding or new files and replays can be programmed to ignore the updates above their patch numbers so that even if they decided to nerf Bayonetta, she'd be buffed back to how she was when the replay was saved so that the saved inputs don't desync.
