I've been facing alot of Snakes lately and I just can't seem to gain the upper hand in these matches. Samus' projectile game seems to be her best asset but Snake seems to trumb hers and besides that he has better KO ability too.

I just want to know/discuss how other Samus users fight Snake (and preferably beat him).

Aerial game is key. Snake has nothing on Samus in the air. Space and time your jumps to land your best aerial, zair. The range is truly amazing, plus it's one big disjointed hitbox.

If you ever find yourself out of zair's range, homing missles in the air should bait your opponent to get closer. Being a moving target in the air beats being stationary on the ground.

Try not to get too close since Snake has superior priorty in close range. Learn how long the hitstun of your attacks last so you can combo better, especially zair.

Snake is a heavy character, so killing him off the top will be difficult. Remember to grab him as he recovers. Don't throw though, throwing him allows him to use his Bup again. Not throwing snake causes him to lose his Bup, unable to recover to the stage.

Airdodge often to escape combos, even to start your own. Approaching with a SH airdodge will discourage attacks, then land with zair. This works out for me everytime.

EDIT: Okay, I just got back from playing a couple matches in brawl and I remembered this. If you EVER find yourself too close to snake, or any foe. Shield and immediately up B out of it. B up out of shield for Samus is amazing. If they attack the shield, they take 12% from Screw Attack. If they see the shield coming and grab, B up will hit through it. Seriously, Samus' B up is like Fox's shine (from melee).

Snake has no very fast aerial move, so ORLy knows his stuff. I find it very easy to get a 50-60% combo on snake at the very start of each of Snake's lives. Just vary attacks between uair fair zair and upb, depending on his position. Mostly uair and upb though. Found that most effective. If he is edgeguarding, throw a few missles his way before tether recovering to a quick edge attack, or if at higher percentages or just to mess with him, drop off the edge then quickly come back on with fair straight into upb as soon as you hit the ground. Make sure fair is very close to the ground, or this wont work. And remember about what cancels what with Snakes projectiles. Grenades cancel all of Samus' projectiles, but homing missles and an uncharged shot will not blow the grenade up. Use that to your advantage to keep Snake's grenades near him. And Snake's forward-b gets knocked off course by almost all of Samus' attacks except the near-fully charged shot. That destroys it. It is much better to knock that off course, especially during it's early stage, near Snake. Then you can zair both of them. And watch out for hit ftilt and jab combos. both cancel missles, so if you trick him to staying in place trying to cancel missles with his jab, very quickly launch off a Homing followed by a Super Missle followed by a fully charged shot. Or if he is jabbing, you can get a super missle to his face and not his fist if you short hop right. And if you are stuck in close to his jab combo or ftilt, then shield, and hope that you can counter attack with a jab then dtilt, because even those for snake are killing moves against Samus.

Haha, Raigoth. My original post was just like yours, but I thought for a sec and decided to space out my sentences to make it a bit easier to read. Remember, nobody likes huge walls of text. It's scarier than Ganon lifting his crotch in front of your face while you're stuck in the ground from a pitfall. VOLCANO KICK!

I think alot of people having Snake problems. I see these theme alot. Aerial is good against him though. But hes tough for samus or he's tough in general.

Well, I was fighting a Snake today and he spams his snake-dash thingy a lot. I am able to read it and shield, but I can never punish him for it after shielding. He just comes back and does another one before I can zair or anything.:ohwell:

any solutions?
punish him before he comes. short hop zair then come at him to punish him there. you wont be able to punish him if you stand there and shield, trust me, ive tried. his dash attack is to good. when i play against snake, my approach is always in the air. snake has nothing against samus in the air.

Snake's dash attack is amazing because he gets behind you after finishing it. (Misses shield wavedash from melee) It's instinct to shield dash attacks and you can never see it coming because Snake gets a speed boost when performing his dash attack.

Assuming your reflexes kick in and you shield the attack, as soon as you hear the 'clank' sound when he makes contact with your shield, immediately smash B-up. Snake will end up behind you at this point, but with good timing, your screw attack will drag him up with you. Snake has nothing on you in the air, which is why B-up out of shield is so good.

There is never a moment in the air where Snake is superior, unless he has a C4 attached to you.

It's hard to hit Snake as he approaches because he can crawl. Zair will help you attack Snake from a distance, and out of range from his stupid ftilt.

In general, punish his approaches. Approach with Zair. Combo him as he lags from his slow attacks, or whenever you see him in midair.

My sparring partner plays Snake, so I have a good deal of trouble too. However, if you can out-think Snake, you can beat him. This is the case in any matchup, but in Samus vs. Snake, thinking quickly and thoroughly is absolutely critical.
