Alright everyone, we've (finally ) got an announcement to make!

As I'm sure you know, SSF has been on hold for a while - COVID, real-life issues, and stuff like that has prevented us from doing much besides the Skullgirls Kickstart League.
Now though, the Kickstart League is over, the state is no longer on fire, and we've got a pretty solid plan for what we'll be doing going forward!


While we can't quite share our plans for December & 2021 yet, what we can do is announce what we're doing this weekend:

The Salem Shutdown Netplay Series returns this weekend, starting with Smash Ultimate and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R!

We're doing some testing with this Salem Shutdown, so there are a few differences from what you may be used to:
1) We will be running all events as Swiss Brackets, which then feed into Double Elimination finals!
This guarantees that everyone is able to get a larger number of matches, and since it's online we don't have to worry about running out of stations!

2) Entry is free, but there will be no prize support this week.
While there's always a chance we'll find something in the next few days, please don't enter expecting a prize.
We are working on getting prizes lined up for future events, however there's some legal stuff with online events that we're working through.

Alright everyone, we're ready to announce (most of) what's going on here at the Salem Smashfests this December!

We've been running the Salem Shutdown brackets for the last few weeks, but we're going to be changing things up a little for December - rather than running weekly events, we're going to be running One-Month League Events!

We're going to be testing some stuff again this month, but at the moment our goal is to run these Month-long events regularly during COVID - don't worry though, you don't have to commit to showing up each weekend if you don't want to!

Ok, so how will these Salem Shutdown Leagues work?
- Each Saturday we'll run a bracket for each of our League Games for the month: this month we'll be running Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Guilty Gear XX AC+R! (We've got stuff coming up for other games soon as well, though )

- For the first few weeks of the month, these will be Swiss Brackets (or Ladder events, in the case of XX this month!). Anyone can show up and get quite a few matches, and hopefully have a great time!
At the end of each Swiss week, the Top 4 Players* automatically qualify for the main bracket on Finals Week!

- On the last week of the month (or in December's case, 12/19 - we don't want to overlap with Christmas too much), it will be Finals Week!

• For Finals Week, we'll be running 2 brackets (per game): the Finals Bracket for people who have qualified, and an Amateur Bracket for everyone else who had entered a previous week's event!
• Players who make it into the Finals Bracket will be playing for Cash Prizes (and/or Gift Cards)!
• Players in the Amateur Bracket will be playing for a Match Analysis video, for a set of their choice!

• 12:30pm | SSB Ultimate Amateur Bracket Begins
• 1:00pm | SSB Ultimate Qualified Finals Bracket Begins
• 4:30pm | GGXX AC+R Amateur Bracket Begins
• 5:00pm | GGXX AC+R Qualified Finals Bracket Begins

BRACKET SETUP

Qualified Finals Bracket
The Qualified Finals Bracket is an 8-Player, Double-Elimination bracket playing for cash (and/or gift card of choice) prizes!

Amateur Bracket: Ladder
Open to anyone who did not qualify for the Finals bracket, the Amateur Bracket will be an Open Ladder event running alongside the finals!
Play as many matches as you want as you watch the Finals, and aim for Top 3 - make sure you stick around until Finals are complete, though!
(Note: The Amateur Bracket Ladders will close as Grand Finals of the Qualified Finals bracket begins)

Amateur Bracket: Finals
The Top 3 players from the ladder will move on to play in a final bracket, where the winner gets their choice of an in-depth VOD review or an hour of coaching!
(Note: The Amateur Bracket Finals will begin right as the Qualified Finals Bracket for the respective game ends)

SALEM SHUTDOWN LEAGUE | JANUARY 2021
The Shutdown League games this month are Super Smash Bros. Melee (via Slippi) and... one of the following FGC games!

• Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R
• Tekken 7
• Killer Instinct

We'll be putting the FGC game choice to a poll - please fill out the form here if you want to enter a specific FGC game this month!

Also, after some testing last month we'll be running Swiss -> Top Cut for each Qualifier Week, for both League Games!

While Melee may have the League Game slot this month, we'll still be running plenty of SSBU stuff!

For now we've got 2 Netplay Nights locked in (the first 2 Fridays of the month), and we'll probably have more coming later in the month as well!

We'll be running FGC Netplay Nights as well, but we're waiting until we know what the League Game is before we announce them

If you're attending (if you filled out the Pre-Reg form already, you're good - we had exactly the correct number of entrants lol) please be aware that for now we will still be requiring proof of vaccine/masks, even though Oregon has re-opened as of a few days ago
(We're going to wait and see for a bit longer before we loosen those restrictions, but stay tuned and you'll know as it happens )

First up, the results of the Monthly Game-Vote:

Winner: King of Fighters XV
Runner(s)-Up: Guilty Gear Xrd & Super Smash Bros Melee were tied for second!

This means that KoF will be taking the 12:00pm slot each week this month - congrats to the KoF community, and best of luck next time to everyone else!
(Also next month should have 2 winners again like normal

== OTHER UPDATES ==
Just a couple of quick things here this month!

We're adjusting the start-times for the different games again (Though only slightly)

For the month of May, the start times will be as follows:
- 12:00pm King of Fighters XV (/"Rotating Game of the Week" in future months)
- 1:00pm Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- 2:00pm Guilty Gear -Strive-

You may notice a spot missing from that list - we tested out running Smash Ultimate Doubles last month, but with the interest it got (outside of the first week, which was certainly big enough lol) it looks like we'll probably only run it occasionally going forward
If you would like to see Smash Ultimate Doubles show up at future offline SSF brackets, please let us know!

It looks like most people would prefer the Rotating Game entry to stay at $2, so that's what we'll keep it at

(We might adjust it on a per-game basis going forward? We'll see what happens)
