Hopefully this means we get a 1,000 more characters
Boy, Sakurai's going to need to get an automail arm for that workload!

Wait for the inevitable GOTY/Complete edition.

...or actually sell your current copy first THEN get the GOTY edition.
Considering Smash has never done this before, it's a highly-unlikely possibility to bank on.

Know I'll be doing this with Fire Emblem If though.

While I've always felt that Smash Wii U was light on content, it's never felt incomplete and I'm so glad that Sakurai (and by extension, Nintendo) hasn't gone the route so many other developers go by releasing an incomplete game and selling the rest of it as DLC later.

I really think he should take a break after Lucas. It has nothing to do with me thinking he's not good at his job (on the contrary, I think he's done a mostly wonderful job with the Smash series), but I think he really needs a break. After Lucas they should just release past stages as DLC for a bit, since that's not something he really needs to work on firsthand-- he would have to oversee it, yes, but since the stage's concept is already done they would just have to program it in. The only new stuff would really be enhanced textures and maybe some new music. At most he would just decide what tracks would be put in and let the music team handle the rest. Then maybe in a few months after his break he can start working on new characters/stages/modes.

Although I'm certain more developers and publishers think of the reaction DLC gets then you'd think, it's atleast cool that he felt it necessary to mention it. He's saying the right things, so I'm happy for him in that front.

The problem is that Smash's DLC is just a scam, and so far very underwhelming.

MK8 costs 60$, and the meat of the game is the tracks. half old, half new, 32 in total. You're paying 1.88$ per track. The DLC has 16 tracks, slightly more new then old, and costs 16$ if you're stupid, 12$ otherwise. .75$ per track is more then half the price of the original tracks, and more then makes up for lower amount of other content not added. (Characters, modes, ect.)

SSB4 costs... Let's say 100$. 50 (I believe) characters, mostly old and some new, are the main focus. 2$ a character sounds good. Mewtwo costs more then double a full character, 5$, and really isn't one himself since he lacks custom moves. He comes with nothing major to offset the 150% price increase. And to top it off, he's an old character with minimal changes compared to other returning characters and didn't really stand apart in the first place. Sure, you could of gotten him for free... But that wasn't an option for everybody. Lucas is going to be even worse since he's just a clone of Ness, and somehow I doubt he'll cost much less then Mewtwo if at all.

I'm happy you're able to voice your opinion directly to Nintendo via not buying the DLC. I think you're doing false math on numbers that don't exist, but you ultimately decide what's worth it and what's not.

Also, characters in a fighting(party) game require a ton more work than tracks in a racing game. With every character, or a new feature introduced into Smash the amount of testing is increased exponentially.

I know all characters who aren't clones require considerable work, but they should find a way to make veterans less expensive. Mewtwo being the exception because they had to make him from scratch, but Lucas should be less expensive than any newcomers we may get.

Well, I got Mewtwo for free, and everybody comes over to my place to play Smash so I'll probably have to buy all the characters anyway.

The thing is that I'm paying for content, not balancing and stuff. They couldn't even release Mewtwo without two big glitches slipping through, so I kinda doubt that extra 3$ went into testing.

If you want the content then you are going to have to pay for balancing and stuff. Having a dlc character that's extremely Op would not be fun for anyone. They did testing... however, just like the regular development they didn't have enough time to do all the testing they wanted to -- that's why Smash 4 is the glitchest Smash of them all. Also, one of those glitches (the "custom move") required pretty specific input from the user and normal players would be very unlikely to run into it.

Paying more then double for balancing a character that doesn't do anything new compared to the rest of the cast sounds pretty far off to me. And where did they get this "balancing money" when they sold the game? They were perfectly fine selling the game at 2$ a character before.

They should of probably kept the game in development longer instead of releasing something this buggy and cutting characters from previous games and selling them as DLC later. It's only just those horrible business practices that people have decided to live with.
