So, I hear, according to Sakurai that "it’s rumoured that there will be boss appearances". Now, I don't know about you, but when I'm walking down the street, I don't hear anybody even talking about Smash Bros, let alone the possibility of bosses in it. Even when I talk to my nerdiest friends, all they really know is "yeah, brawl's gunna be a game, right? how about that halo 3?".

Wait a minute... this forum is the largest Smash Bros. community in the world... and WE'RE the ones who have been talking about the possibility boss appearances... so, really, when Sakurai says that it's been rumoured, what he REALLY means is WE'VE been discussing these rumours.

I am now of the strong opinion that Sakurai has a man on the inside... somebody is watching these forums, listening to what we're saying, and Sakurai is adjusting his game accordingly. His music "Metroid: Boss Battle (Ridley Fight)" may well have been planted in order to provoke a response from this community to help him decide whether or not to make Ridley playable!

Anybody else think that I might be onto something?

very good point yes, with rivals such as sony and microsoft, nintendo needs every competitive edge it can get, but you also have to understand that the people on these boards are a small minority of the people who play smash. But all in all, i can see how these boards have influenced sakurais decisions in some way

Well uh Duh, it's obvious that Sakurai has to pay attention to the fan base, if not then Brawl would be a sucky game.

Wether he is watching THIS forums, that's debatable.

Honestly I think the poll that Sakurai had gave him all the info he needed; even taking some of it from the Nsider forums.

IT'S NOT ME...hahaha......

Seriously though...I think the game, including characters, is at least decided (if not in the process of being created) at this point. I don't think the roster is really up in the air anymore.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the developers did take a look at SWF every once and a while. Why wouldn't they??

I don't think Nintendo needs any help outselling Sony.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Dev teams watch popular fansites. It'd actually be a good idea to get some insight.

Well, this IS the biggest and best forum about Smash out there, so it's probably one of the first places he looks.
Why would it be weird that he views this site?

I don't see this really, rumors of bosses? how many times has this been brought up here on the forums?\

i've only seen one prediction thread. OUT of ALLLLL the threads, then members, then Fans who love SSB, and going more in depth ANYONE who is interested in the game PERIOD, i don't think sakurai has been listening or anything.

like i said before sakurai probably doesn't look at these forums (if he does he proabably laughs his head off at our guesses.) there are so many other forums about Super Smash Bros that it could have been a common rumor about boss battles.note i don't know any other forums besides NSider and this one so.............. also he proabably put that there for a reason to provoke possibilities of us speculating about boss battles.

any way i doubt that sakurai is watchng us like people keep saying (or hoping) but it is still a possibility.

now how many other forums about Super Smash Bros are there?

Sakurai doesn't say ''it's rumoured that'' because he just surfed on some websites or walked down the street and heard ''Hey, you know what, maybe there will be some boss appearances in Brawl'' and the other guy said''Wow what a rumour...'' and then Sakurai posted it on sb.com...if you look at Wario's post, ''IT'S RUMOURED THAT Wario will give birth to a martial arts that no one can see'', do you think that was heavily discussed on a forum or on the street? No, cause everyone knows that Sakurai was talking about is Giant Fart Attack...So, Sakurai may have visited this site once, but it's not like he's gonna check out the rumours and gossips about his game...

Edit: Oh yeah, Sakurai doesn't post things just so that we talk about that topic and discuss those things, and later, he changes plans just because we talked about it, everything, all the things in the game, were planned from the beginning and whilst the game is being made, few things are changed.
Snake was going to be in Melee, but Kojima came too late, because the game was too far in progress for a new character.
They placed in Roy at the last moment because Fire Emblem needed a representation for the new games, and it was not a complete new character, it was a clone of Marth, thus he was more easily to fit in the game.

Point: Sakurai only posts things because he knows we're frustrated about certain things, and happy and reliefed about other things, he posts as he sees fit in profit of the game, it's called ''marketing''...

I don't think he's listening to this forum... but I wouldn't be surprised if he's looking at Japanese Video Game sites and magazines... not to mention talk amongst lower-level people at Nintendo (those that may not be 'in the know' so are guessing what everything is).

Well, I assume there will be boss appearances in Brawl, because there were boss appearances in 64 and Melee. I don't think it means all that much.

I'm right here! What a silly question.
I think LuLLo got it right. Sakurai is being his own rumormonger when he says stuff like "It is rumored..." He knows he posted that Subspace Minister video earlier this week with Petey shown at the end, so he assumed there was going to be talk of such a giant enemy as a boss, as opposed to say, a playable character.

It's not unlikely that Sakurai or other developers read some fan forums somewhere, but at this point, we're mainly reacting to things they have already posted or announced. In other words, stuff they already know or reactions they expect.

This game has been in development for years and years ('05?). By now, it is much too late in the dev process for major additions like characters. With realease merely months away, the roster is probably cemented and what they're doing now is filling holes and teaking minor features for balance. Really, the majority of the game should be finished, and they're making very small add-ons and testing for bugs/balance. They need to send the finished game to factory, which needs enough time to produce the discs and package, and ship out on time.

although this game really is tailored for fans, i dont think he searched these forums for years designing the game based on everyone's speculation. what he may be doing is, now that the game is three months away, tailoring the dojo updates to what people are discussing on the boards. possibly, its so easy to look at a forum, that i do not see why it is such a far fetched idea.

doesn't Sakurai and his dev team only speak Japanese. Wouldn't it make a kind of wall for them to have to climb over by getting someone who speaks Japanese and English to look at these forums?

Visiting from above.
Sakurai has made a post (translated into English for him) on the n-sider forums. If they ARE watching anywhere (and I'm pretty confident that they're not), it's there, not here.
