Sakurai Comments on Lack of Ice Climbers

Basically, he got the Ice Climbers on the Wii U version, but due to 3DS limitations had to cut them. They weren't high on his priority list, as they won't be getting a new game anytime soon.

Nothing is said about it, but since Ice Climbers have a trophy, I don't think we'll be seeing any cut vets return through DLC . I'm going to miss the Ice Climbers .

I am going to miss the Ice Climbers too. Smash was their only actual meaningful appearance in video games I am still truly glad the 3DS version exists, though, even if Ice Climbers had to be cut in the process. Welp. RIP in peaces, Nana and Popo.

Gamecube is more powerful than the 3DS. The 3DS only has a couple of aspects that are better than the Cube, but all together, the Cube is a better piece of hardware.

Hopefully one of them will appear as DLC so we can still (technically) have them.
I don't see how they couldn't have worked. Since apparently they're 'most complicated' than Rosalina & Luma and Pikmin & Olimar, they could've just had one of the Ice Climbers run at like 40 FPS.

Honestly, if we could somehow tell Sakurai to reput them in Wii U and just disable them for cross-compatibility, I would totally do that. I don't even like playing them (and playing against them is not the greatest either...) but I know a lot of ICs mains who are disappointed and I don't care if people miss out on Wii U only characters (at this point I might only have the 3DS, and I'm still saying I'm okay that others get them and I don't).

There's technically time for a petition, but I'm not optimistic...

This would also be the ONLY instance where I'd fully support a piece of DLC for Smash 4 3DS - free DLC to put them in the 3DS if they get them working would be A-ok with me.

I wouldn't be mad if they for wii u owners made ice climbers exclusively. Why not? Oh no, one character is different in roster, the 3ds version is now redundant. 3DS has smash run. Something needs to separate the wii u version. (of course needs more than just that though)

Like others have mentioned, it wasn't the 3DS that held them back it was Sakurai's dumbass decision that they can't have even slightly different rosters. Especially when would have just to been to accommodate the 3DS' power. Better to have characters on one of them than not at all.

The WiiU version will obviously have some different mode that's not Smash Run, so they don't need Ice Climber's to make up for Smash Run.

Honestly, I don't see this as a big deal. The fact of the matter is that chain grab shenanigans and infinites were what made that character, and now that they've eliminated both due to the 60 frame regrab restriction, there's really no point to the IC's. Especially with Rosie on the roster now. They were an interesting concept, but its time for new stuff. Not too sad to see them go, especially if we see Wobbles on Rosalina from now on.

They could've done an eye for an eye type of deal, have a newcomer or a veteran (Wolf or Impa/Dixie) as a 3DS exclusive and IC as a Wii U exclusive.

Imagine them not be able to play Ice Climbers since they only have access to their 3DS and barely any access to a Wii U, especially when they're promised for same roster for both versions. Now that would be a backlash of the year. I can understand it's lame for some people that they're cut, but wasn't anything surprising when it came to hardware limitations.

I want Ridley to be made dlc, but to be horrible unplayable. Like Brawl Ganondorf, but even worse.

I'm kind of sadistic (and tired of ridley hypers) I know.
