On June 10-11, local esports organization EGE will be hosting Ontario's first premier tournament event called Saints Gaming Live. This event will consist of a $15,000 pot bonus distributed throughout various main-stream esports titles such as Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Street Fighter V, Heartstone, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
In addition to an open tournament, what makes Saints Gaming Live unique is that it will also serve as tryouts for the Saints Gaming Collegiate esports team. Starting in September, St. Clair College will have 5 Smash Wii U and 5 Melee players on scholarships competing for the school. St. Clair College is the first college anywhere to have scholarships for Smash in the esports realm and to have official recognition as an esports program in Canada.
"We grew up with people telling us that video games would never lead anywhere. Now we're creating opportunities for players to earn scholarships and build a foundation for a career in gaming. That's what excites me most about Saints Gaming Live." says EGE's co-founder Shaun Byrne.
If you or anyone is visiting the Ontario area and would be interested in the attending, make sure you check out the Smash.gg link for more details. For more news & updates on Saints Gaming Live, make sure you tune in to Smashboards.
