According to that website Geno was in the final roster, but since Square-Enix was owner of character, there were copyright infringement and Nintendo and SE could not make a final deal to put Geno in. As result, even though Brawl in late stage of development, they delay the game to remove Geno and place a Random box in his place.

if this is true, then how do they plan on compensating japan's brawl copies? downloadable content?

I can't believe anybody actually believes that. To think that the developers would add Geno before having permission from Square is ridiculous.

Think a bit more please.

It doesn't take 1 1/2 months to remove a single character and add a random choice box in, if developers took over a day making the random box i'd throw a coconut at their heads.

You're a game designer?

I REALLY doubt this...
But if it were true I would, like, kill everyone who works at square-enix for this atrocity (not kill literally but severely hurt)

Wow; if that's true, that's incredibly lame.
Not only are we stuck without a 3rd 3rd party character, but we also got a delay.

That certainly reminds me of what Super Mallow said on his site.

Except guess what, his post on Geno being removed was a joke.

To sum up this post, there are so many things wrong with that theory of Geno being the cause of the February 10th delay that I call bull.

Seriously. I think Nintendo is well aware of the fact that Square helped them create Mario RPG, and that they JUST MIGHT want to get their permission before adding a character that is partly theirs.

It's certainly possible(maybe even likely) that they wanted Geno but couldn't work out a deal with him, but there's no way they added him and suddenly realized Square might not approve

what kind of idiot will believe this?

The guy is using IMDB as a source... That should tell you something.

This has got to be among the most absurd rumors ever. They wouldn't have put him in the game in the first place unless they had already secured the rights to do so.

sounds to me like some fanboy in denial is trying to stir something up. The chances of that are fairly low imo

You're a game designer?
yes, yes I am.

A random slot isn't anything exciting, first you have a algorithm that determines the character based on a random variable and the algorithm itself. I could set up a random character option for 35 characters in 30 minutes, so taking a month to do it would be VERY unrealistic, even factoring in the time it takes to remove the said Geno files.

The reason for the delay was because Online had some bugs. End of story.

Maybe Brawl just has REAALLY messy code.

"Dang it, who set Samus' selection variable to 'h07ch1x0r!1?'"
"Dude, that's Zelda's variable!"

Or my favourite: "Crap, I just created an array made out of arrays full of arrays!"

ahh, touche.
It would depend on if he was teamed up with anyone, but the Japanese were delayed 7 days, not 0 or 46, meaning that they either never intended to have geno, or the Japanese game magically is easier to fix.

I've made a couple of mistakes like the second one, then spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong. The third made me LOL.
