Owain is a decent character, it's just that his fans (especially the fangirls) overhype him as the best character in Awakening like Geno in Super Mario RPG. This was even driven to the point of almost every Fire Emblem related topic in Gamefaqs having to do with wanting him to be in Smash like a certain dark mage.

But X and Y is really the only instance where we got nothing, but even then sakurai aknowledged it anyway. For that time they might have not had their pokemon characters ready yet, or even a video for a newcomer (which if rosalina's and megamans are any indication, a lot of work goes into them). We know gamefreak is picky, so maybe they didnt want a pokemon character to compete with their games spotlight? Or perhaps they wanted to gauge the popularity of some of the new ones as well, we dont know but its all a possibility.
Like was said before, there arent many instances left for these characters to coincide with a release, and this will be kirby's only game for a while id say, hell it could be why we havent seen yoshi yet either since one of his two new games could be very near to a japanese release.
If I were to choose an Awakening rep, it would be Frederick. He's my savior.

Just go to the Super Smash Bros. Wii U forum on Gamefaqs and expect to see a lot of topics that bring him up or mention him. A few months ago, there were a **** load of Owain for Smash topics all over the thread. His fans just disturb me somethings. *shudders*

Well yeah, that's what he's there for. helps you out early but sucks late, most people abuse him tho which saps good exp from you weaker units. Most FE's have a "Frederick" type character btw.He doesn't save you, but he still helps a lot.

In terms of uniqueness, I think Lucina has less of a chance. I would argue only Chrom+Lucina, Robin, or Anna.

It seems to me like so many fans don't consider what they're suggesting.
While the gameplay diversity is there for a mage like character, people need to realize: If the character in question is not a major character, or is a character that you can avoid recruiting, they aren't going to get in the game as playable.
There is a reason why a large percentage of characters in Smash Bros. are the cream of the crop by iconic status standards. The only exceptions to this at the time of their inclusion would maybe be Ike and Roy, but Ike has definitely outgrown that.
It's why random units in Fire Emblem will never get in over the lord, it's why random Pokémon will never get in over those who are heavily advertised. It wouldn't make any sense.
When I see people say Tharja should get in, it's like a random optional recruit from Path of Radiance. It's a stupid idea.
For example, say a character from Xenoblade other than Shulk gets into Smash. That doesn't make sense. Shulk is the main protagonist/icon of Xenoblade.
It's like Pokémon. When the first Smash Bros came out, why would Sakurai have chosen some random Pokémon over Pikachu. It makes complete sense for Pikachu to be there because he was the designated mascot. It still wouldn't makes sense for Sakurai to choose a random Pokémon from the 6th gen that hasn't had any promotion, hence why Mewtwo and Lucario are so likely to return.
The only reason Robin stands a chance is because of the fact that they are unique, whereas Chrom struggles. I mean really, the only way I see Lucina happening is if she is with Chrom, because again, she isn't the main lord.
Some of these scenarios are comparable to having Zelda without Link, or Luigi without Mario. They don't make any ****ing sense.
This is why I don't leave Smashboards. Because sometimes, we may screw around, but we're still logical with our character choices unlike the idiots elsewhere.

I mean, I like Anna and many other FE characters, but those are nothing but dream choices.

(I'm ignoring the Fire Emblem discussion because I don't know a single thing about the series)
I used some nicer icons for a few of the characters.
Changes since last time:
-Replaced Ravio with Tetra, since I played WW again and didn't remember how flipping cool she was.
