Why do pros very little roll. Also i have gotten into a bad habit of rolling way to much any help to get out of this would be great.

In general, it's worse than wavedashing or just plain running. It may seem neat to dodge while you move, but it's slow, and even worse, predictable. They can just easily know where you'll end up, and charge a smash that'll end up killing you, or start a shine combo, etc..

It has it's uses, however, and can't be counted out 100%. Just try to use wavedashing/dashdancing more than rolling.

Some pros like forward use rolling effectively though. It has its uses if you know what you are doing but plain old dodging attacks is more effective, rolling backwards after shielding isn't bad though.

The idea is just not to spam rolling. You can sidestep or jump instead of rolling. But really concentrating on rolling isn't as effective as just getting better in general. If you begin to learn advance tactics like what move to do when than eventually you'll find yourself not rolling as much.

Sometimes it's good to spam rolls, because who expects someone who knows 10 more advanced ways of maneuvering than a roll to use the most basic one 4 times in a row?

True. I think I picked this bad habit up from playing the computer to much because I have no one else to play against.
