In Smash 64 all recovery specials doubled as attacks but this is no longer the case. In Melee Mewtwo's teleport was seen as an inferior version of one of Zelda's moves and Lucario's extreme speed didn't get many fans but a lot of characters now have recovery attacks that are the former but no the latter.

Characters with Default "Hippie Recoveries" are:

Villager: Balloon Trip
Palutena: Warp
Duck Hunt: Duck Jump
Olimar: Winged Pikmin
Mega Man: Rush Coil

Do you think these recoveries are a good way to differ characters or not?

Rob and Sonic can act, so they're not really hippie recoveries.

Almost every character without a hippie recovery has a hippie recovery available in custom specials.

I do think it's a good way to differentiate characters and create tradeoffs. Smash 64 didn't have side B, so that's part of why characters can sacrifice attacking B's more now.

In smash 64 pikachu's recovery had no attacking properties to it. So there goes that theory.

What theory? It's a factual inaccuracy at best. Guess that's what I get for getting a Playstation.

No Rosalina? Tested hers and I couldn't seem to do damage.
