Revival of a Ranking System

I hear the original national rankings got disbanded because of backlash or something obnoxious like that... now that there are so few national tournaments, it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to assign point values for what place you finish in, and have it be 100% objective, and based on results. It would be kind of nice to have some sort of official ranking system.

When I first started watching Melee videos on youtube, I had no idea who was good. The first player I remember watching was HBK's Marth, and I was blown away by how good he was. Now that I've watched a bit more, I realize that HBK's Marth is really good, but probably a level or two below M2K's Marth, or DaShizWiz's Falco. Plus, it's something extra to play for, since the money coming in for Melee tournaments is pretty minimal compared to the MLG days.

Thoughts/feedback?

Well it depends on how liberal the rankings want to be with points. If you are handing out points for getting a set in pools, then yes, that would be a hellacious amount of work.

If it was something simple, like, everyone who clears gets points, it seems like it would be fairly easy to assign some arbitrary number of points to each finishing position.

i always wanted them to start up a power ranking system again. but that does seem like ALOT of work if you want it to be like the brawl one

I really don't mind either way... I would be up for one that was made by the Backroom, but I thought that got disbanded because there was a bunch of backlash against their rankings, so the only way to solve that sort of thing in the future would be an objective points system.

whoa whoa whoa.

HBK > You.

so stfu.
I'm certainly not going to dispute that he is better than me.

You know who else is better than me? Old *** Andre Agassi at tennis, but I'm fairly comfortable saying that Roger Federer is better than him.

But I'm sure the disparity of tournament placement between him and M2K is all just a giant coincidence.

Any other smart arguments you are going to bring to the table?
