Well, it's been one week since my RPG strike, and I decided to play through an old favorite of mine this week, Crash Bandicoot 2: Wrath of Cortex.
Long story short, after Crash kicked his *** in the original game, Dr. Cortex had decided that being evil wasn't exactly working out for him. And his first act of goodness is to contact Crash and tell him that he needs to go hunt down a bunch of crystals in order to stop some kind of solar flux that will apparently destroy the world.
I'm glad I got the story out of the way, because there really isn't much to it. It just does it's job and gives you a reason to be going around to a variety of interesting locations collecting crystals. But moving onto game play now, I must ask this question: What word can be used to describe Crash 2? The answer is this: fun.
Crash 2 is easily one of the funnest games I have ever played on my life, and this counts even the newest of the new. The game has great level design, a nice variety of enemies, and just does not get old. It's mostly due to the fact that the general design of a level will never get repetitious, and you also have these neat little bonus levels which are all different and just as much fun as the main levels.
If I really must say something bad about this game, it's only two things. The first of which is how the fixed camera can make it a tad hard to judge distances, causing you to fall to your death. And my second complain is that it's a tad on the easy side, even for a kid's game. But these little things are easily forgivable and are made up by everything else good about this game.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back does everything that a good sequel should, it took a (and it pains me to call one of the original Crash games this) mediocre platformer, fixed all of it's mistakes and made it and extremely enjoyable experience. If you have a PS1/2/3 to play it on, and you aren't allergic to fun, then Crash 2 is a game that you should pick up if you ever have the chance, you won't regret it.
9/10: Outstanding
Small side note: Yes, I am using scores in my review now and I'm changing the way I review things, slightly, PM me if you're curious about my new policy. Also, any suggestions for next week's game?
