U can reverse up-b use it out of sheild, at the end of a fair combo, when some ones rushing you. An also out of a dash dance. The move is great its one of marths main KO moves.

Just try ur best not to miss. ^_~

It's actually pretty simple after you practice a few times to get the whole motion down. Basically the reverse dolphin slash will be in full effect from 2-4 steps from the opponent. When you're in position you can simply mash your joystick straight up and press B, as the animation starts just move the joystick in the opposite direction and Marth will change directions (must be done in the first couple frames). However, if you try doing this out of a dash animation it is much more difficult and you'll likely end up doing a dancing blade attack half the time. Instead what you can do is move the joystick to the notch adjacent to the top notch opposite of the direction your opponent is rather than jamming the stick straight up.

the sweetspot to the reverse dolphin, contrary to every other attack Marth has, is right next to Marth and is only powerful during the short period before he turns around. You should aim to either hit with a part of the sword very near to Marth or with Marth himself.
Hope that helps.

Actually the best position to have your opponent at is still at the tip even for this move. The "sweetspot" for this move is at the start, but the distance along Marth's sword determines the angle the opponent is sent at. The closer they are to the tip the more horizontally they are sent.

ok thanks, but there's still this confusion over "reverse", am i supposed to face the opponent and then dolphin slash away, ending up facing away from the op, or am i to start facing away and slash towards the op or what? i have tried out but can't be sure if it's not possible or if i'm doing something wrong.

face towards opponent, then slash away from the opponent, facing away from him afterwards.

You can actually do this in the air. I think Azen did this to PC Chris. Works pretty well, just don't miss.

Is the reverse dolphin slash more powerful than the forward version? I definitely use the forward to KO sometimes because it's easier to pull off.

I think it's just easier to pull of the reverse version. If you get the right spot, you should get the same power from both versions.

I dunno. The Reverse Dolphin Slash is instinctive now. I can't even Dolphin Slash normally from the ground anymore :p

Ok, now that i know how to do it propperly, i have tested it out a bit.
The normal dolphin slash has a weak-point distance, that is if you stand as far away from the opponent as possible without missing him. At that distance the dolphin doesn't send him flying, it just pokes him a bit. It seems that the reversed dolphin slash has the same reach as the normal one, but on the same distance as the normal slash just pokes, the reversed one does send him flying with full power.

Other then that i couldn't see any difference, like knockback and trajectory were all the same.

When sweet spotted, the Reverse Dolphin Slash has a much more horizontal trajectory(about 45 degrees) than the normal dolphin slash; this makes it much more favored as a killing move at higher percents.

Example: Cactuar (Green Marth) vs. Taj (Black Marth) 2

At :13 Cactaurs pulls off a mid-air Reverse Dolphin Slash. A normal Dolphin Slash would have sent Taj almost straight up with Cactuar. I'm trying to find an example of a Normal Dolphin Slash, but there is a reason it is not frequently used. Nevertheless, the trajectories are quite different. Hope this helps.

Well it's possible that i've missed that sweet spott during my testing, but that's VERY unlikely. I don't know if it's just my European PAL version. It works a bit different from your American ones, I know that for a fact so..

But the trajectory for my reversed is the same (exactly) as the normal one, and also the same compared to the video example.
