im sure this has been discussed before but does everyone else think theyll intentionally put in wavedash in brawl?
im kind of worried they will make it kind of stupid somehow and give everyone a more similar wavedash.

its jumping and quickly airdodging while holding the joystick diagonally which causes your character to slide a short distance along the level. its very useful i suggest learning it.

Across these boards, you have been recognized as a poster who's post are VERY hard to read. :(

Hmm... You don't know what wavedashing is, but you do it a lot?

I've noticed that there seems to be new techniques that are somewhat similar in appearance to wavedashing.

It leads me to believe that wavedashing has been acknowledged by the creators of the game, but has not been kept. Instead, they have other similar dashing techniques that serve a slightly different purpose / are slightly less effective for the sake of maintaining the intended balance of the game.

@ lollerskater

Maybe the dashing is doing a roll?

^Those could just be how rolls look for those characters.

While it's possible for WDing to return, it has been purported (by EGM) that Brawl uses the Havok physics engine, and so that leads me to believe that airdodging into the ground would just stop your character. I'd think that if it were to make its way back in the devs would have to hack it in.

I know they could be rolls, but at the very least it shows that the rolls are heavily modified / faster / more wavedash-like on some characters. Also, what Snake does AFTER the roll in his gif (before launching his bazooka) also looks suspicious.

Hmm... It DOES look suspicious...

But, after watching it a few times, it's looks like he dashed, then went straight to his Dsmash or whatever that is.

They probably won't change the physics engine too much from previous Smash games. Odds are that all the little tricks and details won't be toyed with.

I'm interested to see if they keep it cause who knows for sure if they knew about it or not when releasing melee.

OK, you have got to be the 3rd person to put that at the end of a post after I have earlier on a thread. I don't get it. Is it catchy? Clever?

Rolling and Wave dashing are two completely different things. What you described is Rolling NOT Wavedashing.

I think that because WDing has become such a massive part of basic smash strategy, they will keep it in.

personally i'll b glad if wavedashing is gone. it'll be the end to something that, as a mario and oikachu main, i can't find the use in. it's just unneeded stress. i say, killl it.

It helps with spacing. Have you ever thought of that?
Judging from those videos posted above*, it seems that the developers may have eliminated wavedashing in favor of more natural methods of manipulating your spacing - namely, a quick hop backwards, or something similar. I would personally be THRILLED if that is indeed what they did. It's something that would be very appropriate for a fighting game, and working it into the game in a method that's more natural than a physics exploit would be a great idea.

* Good find btw, lollerskater. I've seen those moves over and over in the videos, but never stopped to really think about them. They make me very optimistic though.

Wavedashing - Uses:

  • Edgehogging
  • Mindgames
  • Spacing
  • Wavedashing forwards/backwards into an attack
  • Wavedashing into/out of shield/shine
  • Wavedashing into a grab
  • Wavedashing combined with normal dash dancing
  • Wavedashing upon landing (just the dodge into the ground required)
  • Wavedashing into platforms for quicker landings (just the dodge into the ground required)
  • And much, much more!
Yeah, wavedashing has MANY uses.

Of all of those uses, "spacing" (and the one right after it, which is essentially the same thing), is the only somewhat-compelling reason that wavedashing HAS to be in the game. A lot of those reasons are pretty useless.
