... is a term I coined shortly after Kirbypika starting trolling around a bit on my Top Five FPS' post. But it was mostly this quote from him that got me to coin this term:
This is elitism at it's finest. As we can see here, he has a burning hated toward those who weren't blessed by being born in the same generation as him. How foolish, I must say. To be a bit more clear on why he said this (although I'm still confused myself) it's because newer games such as Resistance or Killzone 2 were making lists "of all time" rather than his old favorites. This, this is almost as bad as the Twilight fangirls who attacked that one guy that I talked about in a previous post. If you recall, those girls attacked that man because he didn't like twilight. I can only shake my head in shame of humanity when I see such bitter hatred toward a group or a person because of something as trivial as likes and dislikes.
You know, you shouldn't flip out or get angry just because Half-Life 2 was rated high than Doom on an "of all time" list. Seriously, I've seen some older gamers flip out because (insert old game here) wasn't higher up or at the top of a list. Grow up. For one thing, perhaps before you go on a rampage think about this: maybe the reason why new games are rated so much higher than many older games is because they're actually good. Many Retro Elitists that I've met haven't even played most new games, and start judging them because they have graphics that are more technologically advanced than a drawing on a piece of graft paper.
Many Retro Elitists refuse to go beyond a certain point in gaming because they can't accept that games are not going to be the way the were when they first started. From what I've seen, a lot of them can't stand games that go past a certain generation (usually anything from last gen onward). Why is this? Well, I may not be a "professional" at examining the human mind, but I can take a rough stab at it. I believe that it's because old games are to them what a shooter is to a 360 owner. Safe and familiar. And because they can't see past that wall of safeness and familiarity, they choose to shun and hate those who don't share the same security blanket. And from this, Retro Elitism (and elitism in general) is born.
Many old things die off for a reason. The lives system is starting to go into retirement because lives original were just a countdown at arcades until you had to put in your next quarter. Merciless difficult is going away because some people want to be able to beat a game without either being insane or Korean. Graphics advanced because looking at a sharply rendered plumber is a lot nicer than looking at one you could draw on MS Paint. Old things tend to die out because exactly that, they're old! Outdated, not in style anymore! That's the reason why fads pass and fade out of memory, that's the reason why we all stop watching certain shows at some point. Because they're been outgrown, everything becomes old and outgrown by the population of the earth. That's why we move on, we advance, we grow, we evolve.
If any Retro Elitists are reading this and are going to say something along of the lines of, "you just don't like old games" I want you to know this: don't be stupid, of course I don't hate old games! There are tons of old games that I like! Chrono Trigger, Battle Toads, Super Mario World, just to name a few. But here's the point of this whole post: elitism is foolish, and Retro Elitism is stupid. Before you flame a new game just because it isn't the same as it used to be, drop that well-worn security blanket. Try something new, unless it involves something hazardous, it won't kill you.

I fucking hate the new generation of gamers.
