Relentless targeting of an individual

I am examining the entire spectrum of the problem: everything ranging from accidentally being flagged (just by being an opportunist) all the way to hunting someone down. I'll admit: I'm a vengeful person. If someone were to spike me or whatever, I'd probably seek and destroy. Why is that ban-worthy behavior? Heck, I've done it with real people in the same room. I've never been told that I "need to stop".
I don't think that's what they mean by relentlessly targeting. Go play Basic Brawl and you'll know what we mean. Killing someone with high damage or because they just killed you isn't relentlessly targeting. If player 1 goes after player 4 the whole match or for a majority of their matches thats relentlessly targeting. Or if player 1,2, and 3 go after player 4 the whole match/matches that's relentless. What makes it worse is if 1,2, and 3 goa after 4 and they feed each other kills to keep their damage low. It makes it impossible for you to win and to play a fair game. I don't see why this isn't ban worthy.

As someone who mains Jigglypuff I've been the victim of this plenty of times. I say good!

Jigglypuff is apparently the most annoying thing to fight against. I don't practice avoidance or anything but will be in your face actively dodging and doing insane air acrobatics while beating you to a pulp. This action has made me the target of unwanted aggression. Often people will literally say "lets not fight each other until Jigglypuff is dead!". It's gotten as bad as being banned from playing her... some people are just ridiculous. :p

I can agree with 3v1 trolling being a bannable offense, but I cannot get on board with being booted because I choose to chase a particular player. We'll see, I guess. I quit online Brawl after a few months. Maybe I'll do the same for Smash 4.

If you're only going after one person over the course of several matches, (Relentless targeting of an individual) then you deserve the ban. I wouldn't want to play against you.

Here's my strategy.

As soon as I get to high percents, say 120%+, I'm gonna start camping and stalling. If someone starts chasing me for the kill, BAM, the ban hammer will be heard.

I will become #1!!!!!

I think what this information is trying to say is that you should avoid doing things that would award you the Predator, Stalker, Bully, Opportunist, and Spectator bonuses in Melee.

As long as you don't mess around with a single player too much, you should be okay.

Basically if you play the game as you would normally then you won't get banned, I don't get why people are so paranoid over this.

Temporary bans are a missed opportunity to handle these people. I think it should be handled by the matchmaker system, so that, for instance, if you drop out frequently you'll be match with other people who drop out frequently.

The term "relentless" seems to indicate a longer duration. I don't know how the match making will work, but this could be referring to someone who follows another player from match to match, harassing them?

Seems like a silly rule anyway you look at it:
- If it means targeting the same individual during the match maybe it's because they're already winning so you need to kill them so you can win. Strategy.
- If it means targeting the same individual over the course of several games, then maybe your character has a good character over theirs or you want to go after weaker opponent to score more points (since I'm assuming it'll be time and not stocks) or you don't want to go after the stronger opponent to not lose points. Strategy.
- If it means 3v1ing someone then what if you're 3v1ing the person that's winning? Strategy.

Well before we freak out about it, we should probably just wait and see, it's literally one sentence, so we don't know how it'll be enforced. Who knows, maybe it's something someone can report you for. So if you have 3 guys following one guy through a bunch of matches, and he reports them, then maybe it'll come into play, after a warning. We literally have 0 idea of how it'll work, so I'd suggest not getting too paranoid.

I generally feel that this rule only makes any sense in For Fun mode.

Are we going to have the ability to play the same group multiple times? Is it even possible for "relentless targeting" to span multiple matches? (If Brawl had this with non-friends, I was not aware.) If it does have it, that is strange. If it does not have it, I have a right to be worried as the punishment would apply to stalking within a single match.

In Brawl, when you get into a match you fight the same people until they drop out. So yes, it is possible.

Its not just targeting, its relentless targeting. As in only attacking a certain person and not attacking anybody else, constantly.
