I'll probably be using the regular 3DS. The XL seems nice but I'm too happy with my current one to really think about upgrading. The screen size has never been an issue for me

I have an XL. I can't give you a resolution comparison because I haven't played a regular one, all I can say is that Kid Icarus Uprising is glorious in every way.

Mine does occasionally switch itself off by its own volition. I don't know if that's a design issue or the latest instalment of "Zuby gets the dud out of every batch of electronics he dares to buy into." Like how my Wii doesn't read SD cards.

That 3DS looks sick. I have an XL, but almost got that one just for the design of it.

That's the reason why I got it because I gave the game to my friend because I already had it and plus my black 3ds is acting weird but I did get on launch day and i have dropped it like a million times.

Yes the FEA 3DS is totally sick looking. Kinda wish I could get it, but I already have the regular black 3DS so mesh. Thoguh that Charizard 3DS that is set to come out could rival it in awesomness. o.o

It's already out in Japan actually, just found that out, but not in America yet. I would also like to point out it is a XL and not a regular.

I'd like to upgrade for the screens and battery. Just waiting for an XL design that works for me. Luigi's not too bad. Shame we didn't get Zelda or FE in XL in NA.

I've got a hunch, and maybe someone can tell me if I'm wrong, but if you increase the x and y axises of a 3d screen, wouldn't the z axis increase too? That is to say, shouldn't the depth look better (less shallow) on XL? I've never heard anyone bring this up.

Just added a poll.

I guess I will wait until Smash releases and see if my original 3DS is adequate for it, I'm really fearing the screen will just be too small for it.

Maybe if they come out with a demo a couple days before release then you could test that.

I wouldn't be too surprised if The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds doesn't coincide with a Zelda 3DS design.

Regular.
I don't understand why anyone who isn't blind woud get one for more money, just because it's bigger.

I think I'll reserve on buying a 3DS of some kind until we know that there WILL BE pro pad/slide plus support. That and to see if Nintendo's killer app will be bundled with a special Smash 3DS of some kind.

To stay on topic though I think I may get a regular 3DS because its a bit cheaper and because it has more color variety.

Regular: have a Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary 3DS and see little need to replace it, no matter how nice the bigger screens of the XL might be.

There are probably other games that I just haven't heard of. I am really into competitive fighting games and shooters. So handheld gaming doesn't really cater to me. I also like open worlds like Fallout or Skyrim. Obviously there aren't many expansive open world games on the 3DS. I am also a sucker for those triple A titles that always disappoint me in the end like the Last of Us, Tomb Raider, or Assassin's Creed.

Now that you mention it though I have never played a Fire Emblem. My sister got Radiant Dawn or something like that. So maybe I should get Awakening. I heard it was great. Kid Icarus looks a little challenging. I watched a lets play and you have to read off to the side while you are flying around and shooting stuff. Seems iffy. I am actually a huge Kingdom Hearts fan. However, I don't have a 3DS so I never get to enjoy the series.

Maybe I spoke too soon. There seems to be an adequate library. I might even consider getting one soon. I really want to play Luigi's Mansion 2. Luigi's Mansion was my second Gamecube game. The first was Melee. I am a huge Luigi's Mansion fan. I beat that game like literally 100 times. No joke. When I heard there was going to be a sequel I pissed my pants. Then I heard it was 3DS exclusive. It just made me resentful. After waiting a decade for a sequel all they did was a 3DS version. Man I was angry. Then I heard SSB was going to be co-developed on the 3DS. I guess I will treat my 3DS like a Gamecube 2.0 or something.
For Kid Icarus, you don't have to read anything while playing, it is all voice-acting so you can just look at your character. Also, the gameplay and story are great, and so are the controls once you are used to them (takes like 20 minutes). The online is also fun, and if you play with friends (instead of randoms) and they don't troll, there is a decent competetive scene too.

It has larger screens, better battery life, a matte finish and is more comfortable to hold.
More comfortable to hold is subjective. I've tried holding the XL and found it very uncomfortable, but that is just how it felt to me. Matte Finish is also subjective as again, I found the regular 3DS Gloss to be more comortable, but againt that is jsut how it felt to me. Is a better battery life such a big deal? I kinda understand this, but I have no problem plugging my 3DS up as much as I do, see as it can still be played while doing that, but eh I can kinda understand this since it jsut means less to do. And I get the larger screen since some people have a harder time seeing smaller screens, but I never had that problem. Making the 3DS a better buy for ME since it feels better for ME and is also cheaper. :p

And that's why Nintendo gives you two options, either get the XL or the original based on your preferences. ;)

Regular, It's more portable and tbh the giant screen is not needed at all. Why waste money on a portable system that’s not as portable since its so huge is beyond me.

I haven't made my choice yet, and no offense dude, but your posts sound like one hell of a case of buyer's remorse.

I have an original and I probably don't see the need to get an XL. My hands are relatively small and my eyes are good though.

I haven't held an XL though, so maybe I'd change my mind if I could. I do sometimes get a bit of a cramp if I play the 3DS too long.

Also, does anyone know about how the Ambassador program would interact with getting a new system? Would I be able to transfer over all of that?

I own one but I've played a lot on both, get the XL for the grip and battery life.

I have a regular and I upgraded to an XL (cuz I couldn't resist the pika one I'm a pokemon nut) and I must say the XL is the perfect size for a young adult and fits way more comfortably in my hands than the regular one. You may also think at first that the screen size won't affect you that much but holy cow does everything look so much nicer on the XL (using luigi's mansion for a comparison). Aesthetically the matte finish on XLs is nicer to the touch and to the eye than the gloss finish on the regular 3DS.

I have a regular 3DS and plan on selling it for an XL just for smash. All other games I can put up with the smaller screen but smash deserves a more glorious platform.

I would say if you are looking to buy a new then without a doubt the XL, better battery life, more comfortable to hold and feels robust :)

I think it's all down to preference. I'm getting a regular 3DS cus I prefer smaller screens and also so I can get a capture card for it.
