I think everyone's willing to try Brawl.
It just seems that some people will be going into it with a preconceived attitude.

I know, right? I wish I were playing right now. I can almost foresee myself...Wii on one side of me, Cube on the other...one wavebird, two receivers. Simultaneous Brawl/Melee-ing FTW

If brawl ends up being different than melee (rather than just melee 2.0 or melee 0.5) as most expect, it's tough to see how things will go. Melee wasn't really an upgrade of 64 but rather different (too many mechanics changed), but both games are still played today as has been pointed out. However, I'm guessing that MLG is going to put brawl on the roster (or at least sponsor grasssroots tournaments), and if they do that could mean brawl is the primary tournament game (since MLG is where the money is). Although it's different, since my impression is that the melee tournament scene is and always has been much more mature and developed than the 64 tourney scene; I would guess a lot of brawl tournaments would have melee tournies on the side. If the tourney scene embraces both games together rather than having separate tournaments for each game, that would be incredible.

Also, brawl/melee wavebird simulplay ftBIGw.

The Melee tourney scene is bound to continue for at least as long as it takes people to get pro at Brawl. After that though its a toss up. We'll have to see whether or not there are still a lot of pros staying with Melee.

Also, just because L-Canceling no longer exists doesn't mean there won't be other stuff to worry about executing in place of it. There is only so much a person can think about in the heat of combat and with the new additions to the advanced skills they will need to delete something so that people aren't overwhelmed. No matter how hardcore one is there is still a limit to one's brain capacity and multitasking skill.

Brawl is going to be newer and better than Melee.

Why would I want to play an outdated game when I could freaking play BRAWL.
Well you don't know that Brawl is a better game than Melee until you've played it. Anything new is going to look better than it's previous predecessors

lol why does this topic remind me Nsider forums so much?

PP, FL... yes, i said pp.
HAHA I'm happy they took out all those advanced techs you tourney goers use. This will finally ensure that I will beat all you scrubs when I play you online since there will be no glitches that you can abuse to give you an edge over someone like me. I have real MINDGAMES and do not exploit to win.

P.S. I'm being completely facetious and I'm sure i got a few people since my name isn't r.ecognizable at all. Yeah brawl boards suck and I will surely miss wavedashing (ICs) and L cancelling =/

If its automatic you cant miss it. Missing is part of fighting. Brawl fails.
completely arbitrary execution requirements placed for the sake of being there aren't, i can tell you that much

No wavedashing+auto L Cancelling= Better for everyone.

Cuse, think about it...
It'll give people the chance who can't wavedash the ability to not get pounded, and the people who ONLY wavedash to maybe not be so **** annoying with it.
As for auto L cancel...
Just made it so we don't have to press a button to get up faster. Get over it.

In B4 you call me a scrub.
idk if anyone said this yet..

but..

People who can't wavedash or other AdTech DESERVE to get pounded by the elite.

I think can see why some might not like the the apparent lack of advanced technques present in Brawl

I am realitively new to competitive smash, and there are planty of others like me. I can't be sure I am speaking for others in this group, but I can speak for myself, and I must admit that I am a little spoiled. When I entered the competitive scene of Melee, most discoveries had been made, and nothing very major was implemented into the game. It was so nice to have most everything in front of me, and improving was much easier than it was years ago. Since I will start playing Brawl at its start, I will not know as many of the exploits of the game, it will likely take me longer to get better. Also, I might not see Brawl as the deep, amazing game that Melee is when I first play it, but Brawl will have its fair share of exploits that can greatly impact high level play over time.

anyway get real folks, execution isn't really what makes good players stand out and win enough to be called "good"; you and i both know it comes down to thinking on your feet and approaching things in creatively novel ways, things in which dashdancing and whatever (apparently a "mindgame" now) won't really get you by that well

and yes, i'm aware of all the funderful new possibilities stuff like wavedashing open, but guess what? l-canceling doesn't open a single strategy or anything, thus it doesn't make a bit of difference if they speed things up and take it out; this also applies for every other technique which encourages you to simply use it every chance you get like a robot, without any actual incentive not to use it some of the time

fact is, if execution is what it takes to define if someone is good or not like some of you say, then you should be asking yourselves if there's really nearly as much strategy to this as you thought all along; in the meantime, a whole assload of other games are out there and easily managing to be at least as deep (and i'd argue deeper but lord knows i'd never hear the end of it from the ssbm-only folk here) without (at least the way you guys seem to see it) boiling down to a couple tricks with your fingers

"HAY GUYS LETS WHINE ABOUT A GAME THATS NOT EXACTLY THE SAME AS MELEE!"

Did it occur to you that yes, they removed L-canceling, but the moves in general have less lag?
