Dedede isn't going to be a boss, he's a playable character.
So far we have Petey and (most likely) Rayquaza.
I can see Ridley as being a strong possibility, along with King K. Rool from DK and possibly Kamek from the Yoshi series?
(not sure about that last one at all)

1. Dedede is playable
2. Ridley WILL be playable.

Conclusion: you fail at life. Go jump off a bridge.

What I love is the assumption that playable characters can't be bosses. Five bucks says they can and will be. Bowser is a prime example of a very likely one, along with Wario. Other ones I'd guess for as "obvious" bosses would be a Metal Gear (Dunno which one) or Ocelot (That's right, right?) for Snake, and Eggman or maybe Metal Sonic for Sonic.

If say DeDeDe and Ridley WERE bosses, (not saying yes or no, just speculation), then when you defeat them, that could be a way for them to become unlocked. Or maybe just somewhere down the line you get them for something else you do. The first suggestion seems better, but again this is just assuming if they are bosses.

Yeah, I love that assumption too. Metaknight in particular looks like a boss waiting to ... ummmm... boss people around? (I just failed...)

Moving on from that...

From what we've seen, the same is true for Bowser the Cute (seriously, did you see his over-the-top grin?) and Wario the Not Cute At ALL. I'd bet that your guess about Dedede The Less Cute Than Bowser is spot on.

I bet that the playable-character bosses will become playable at some point. I don't have solid evidence, but I think that SE will feature the ability to play all playable characters as a sort of introduction to them, except perhaps characters unlocked through something other than SE.

I should learn to not post when I'm this tired, lest I go off about Bowser's cute little grin again.

Whenever anyone questions Ridley's chances on these boards, seven forum members kill the nearest small mammal... or large reptile... or mother.

He is just SO PRECIOUS isn't he? :D

I'm not the biggest Metroid fan in the world, but I've played a significant amount of the games and also beat a significant amount of the games. I'll agree that Ridley is an excellent consistant boss in every game he appears in.

However, I do not think he should be playable.

Ridley, is a huge, badass, monster of a dragon. Making him playable would require two things, both of which would ruin the "huge, badass, monster of a dragon" part of him.

First, he would have to be scaled down. For those who haven't played Prime 3, he's big enough to grab Samus around the waist in one of his talons. To be shrunk down would significantly decrease his menacing factor. Not to mention that his hitbox would be a complete chore. Include his tail and wings and he'd be as impossible to play as Melee Bowser. Disclude his tail and wings and he'd probably be borderline overpowered. Imagine fighting Bowser, but hits on his shell don't register.

Second, purely revolves around a moveset. You just can't put "HOLY CRAP DID YOU SEE WHAT HE JUST DID AWESOME" moves on to a playable character and have it be properly balanced. So no sweeping the stage with a giant fiery plasma beam. But as a boss, he COULD do this, and look sickeningly awesome while doing it.

To summarize, the steps needed to make Ridley a playable character would just purely ruin how much of a badass and menacing enemy he really is. He would wind up looking like one of those little spitting lizard dinosaurs from Jurassic Park, with special moves about as spectacular.

As a Metroid PLAYER, not a fanboy, I think Ridley as a boss character would do him vastly more justice than a playable role would.

Ridley is not huge.... Meta-Ridley is. Fail.

Looks about the same size to me. Meta-Ridley might have larger wings, but what do you expect? The SNES couldn't animate sprites as big as his wings currently are, not in a game like Metroid that has (potentially) tons of sprites on-screen at once.

Also note that he's hunched over. Constantly.

Actually accourding to that pic ridley's 2.5 times taller than samus, which, since samus is like average height and kind of tall, that would put ridley through roofs and platforms on some stages. He would be larger than bowser. I'm not bashing ridley at all, in fact i'll be really happy if he's in, im just saying his chances as a boss are much higher than as a character, no matter what game/form you take him from (exept maybe the NES metroid, I think that one he is pretty small. But that would be the worst form to make him as because there are a lot more cooler looking ones.

Anyone think that there are some more easily confirmed bosses?

Let me start...

Ridley.

I still think Ridley will be playable...plus there are other characters from the Metriod series that can be a possibleboss like Mother Brain or Kraid so that being said Ridley still has a good chance of not being a Subspace boss and actually being a playable character.;)

Size is a completely trivial issue and I don't know why people still complain about it. Ridley would be a large character like Bowser or DK, but there's no reason he would have to be to scale. Kirby, anyone?

I dont no how to copy down a pic, but i was just responding to Fanewgie's post with the shot of ridley from SNES. I then stated that i wasn;t sure on his size from the NES game so it was just based over that post. Plus the shot from Melee does have him scaled down. So really I'm only hoping he makes some appearence in the game.

Dedede is a playable character.

I don't know why people keep suggesting main villains like Ridley and K. Rool, when the bosses so far have been less important bosses from their games.

hahahaha!

this thread is SUCH WIN!

ridley as a playable character! blasphamy!

don't get me wrong. Ridley is important to metroid, and a cool character, but he should NOT be a playable character.

though, nindgod...dedede is confirmed as playable, may want to...edit that part or something. but its okay, everyone is allowed to make a few mistakes, just as everyone is making a (large) mistake in thinking ridley is a good idea as a playable character! :p

Exactly that's kinda what I was trying to say on a similiar thread I did in the character discussions. But yeah it wouldn't make sense to make the important villians(like Ridley and K. Rool who should be playable) mix with the less important bosses Rayuaza and Petey.
