Lately I've been trying to come up with new ideas to gather people, when I thought the tournament scene around here was pretty much dead, I went to a recent tourney and saw a decent Smash attendance.

Yesterday I was watching some Ranking Battles on Youtube's TheShend Channel, and that made me wonder if it was possible to apply/adapt that style of ranking onto (mainly) Melee and Brawl.

There are 14 levels, being from 1th to 10th Dan, then there's Strong, etc.-Dan, of course the smaller amount of players there is there would be less division.

Point system would be somewhat like this:

Players entering the rank would be 0±
Winning grants you +1 (duh!), Losing gets you -1
Lower rank battles it would require +3 points to advance
Higher Ranked battles would require +5 points to advance
On all ranks the being at -3 would lower your rank.

Maybe put a cap on the max number of players per level to keep the flow throughout the ranks.

Consecutive 1 match games
Winner stays, losers waits in line to battle again.

Also in those rankings a player is kind of restricted with a character during ranking play (to Smash Players might be an Issue).
The player may play another character but playing another character would have to go through the rakings from the bottom.

Quick example: I get to the higher Ranks, 7th Dan, with Fox and then I decide to enter to the ranks with my Ganon, playing as Ganon would require me to go through the ranks from the start.

... This system is applied to SFIII. Now then since Smash games require some tweaking (or maybe leaving it to luck) on the matter that Stages affects the matchup (even on Neutral Stages).

I've been storming ideas with some friends about this, making it into something of a Bi-weekly or whatever fits more into schelude.

Might as well check around here more ideas or whatever can come out of this.

Any doubts make sure to ask ;D

You don't have to keep saying Dan. It translates to Level iirc, no need to mix japanese and english.

Also sounds pretty cool.
