Main series Mario games. Go ahead. Rank em. Here's my list.
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
Has everything SMG1 has but even more of everything that made it so great. Plus, Yoshi in 3D!
2. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Gorgeous artsy visuals and atmosphere. So much diversities in levels. It was a smash hit for the Wii.
3. Super Mario World (SNES)
All-time classic. Love the color and speedy flow to it. Easy to play through. A big step up for platformers.
4. Super Mario 64 (N64)
Set the road map for 3D games. The mansion discovery-based atmosphere, non-linear complex level design and tricky puzzles still hold up.
5. New Super Mario Bros. (Wii)
I enjoyed this one much more than the DS. I remember playing this game a whole lot.
6. Super Mario Bros (NES)
Total classic. Iconic. Great stuff all the way.
7. Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
Some will call this too low. Hard to say what kept me loving the **** out of it, but its still a great game.
8. Super Mario Sunshine (GCN)
Love the atmosphere to this game. Water-based gameplay makes it unique from the others.
9. New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
A great way for Nintendo to re-invent its very first classic for a totally new audience.
10. New Super Luigi Bros DLC (Wii U)
Big improvement. Nintendo gets really creative and a wee bit sadistic with their level design. DLC done right!
11. Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)
The first 3D mario game without a real theme. Also, multiplayer is as fun as watching paint dry.
12. Super Mario Bros 2. (NES)
Wasn't originally a Mario game, but it still has a pretty unique take on things.
13. New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS)
Quite derivative. A total rehash. Still fun, but nothing amazing.
14. New Super Mario Bros (Wii U)
How many times does Nintendo have to milk this? It's not new anymore.
15. Super Mario Bros Lost Levels (NES)
I still enjoy it, but just doesn't feel like its own game.
16. Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
Not a bad game, but while there is a visual improvement, the physics aren't faithful to the originals.
