Random jab with C-stick set to smash

Hey guys, I've been playing a ton of online, and I've got something that really messes me up, and I can't figure out why it happens. Randomly during some matches, I'll space myself out perfectly, wait for my opponent to whiff an attack, hit the C-stick to throw out a smash aaaaand... I get a jab instead. ZSS only gets 6% damage off of her jab, so it's a really ****ty thing to have happen. It happens too randomly for me to be able to tell what it is, and I don't know if it only happens when I'm coming down from the air, or on the ground, but does anybody else seem to have this problem? Am I doing something I shouldn't be?

The C-Stick input at a diagonal angle gives you a jab regardless of what it's set to. It happens more frequently in Smash 4 than in previous games, but it's always been that way. Just practice on flicking it more straight forward or straight up and down and that should get rid of those pesky jabs.

Really? I went into training mode to get an idea of what's going on, and no matter how much I forced the diagonals, I was still getting smash attacks consistently, I didn't get a single jab. Is it a random occurrence that you'll get a jab when you hit a diagonal by accident?

This also happens if you're playing in freeze-lag. If the stick doesn't read the initial touch, it sometimes read it as a jab, even if you tilt it straight.

If I had to guess, that's likely it more than anything else. Damn lag =/

Have you tried other controllers?
I haven't, I've been using the new gamecube smash controller that came with the bundle. Now that I've been looking out for it more, I've noticed it only happens in laggy matches, so I'm fairly sure the controller isn't the issue.

the C-stick is horrible in this game IMO. Not only because of the random jab (or at times, default B attack with perfect angeling) but also because you can actually charge the smash with the C-stick. Want to do a quick smash attack? Better flick the stick perfectly, or you're losing precious seconds whilst charging it. Yuck.

But like all things, it takes practice getting good at. Not something I ever intended on practicing though...
