I think the OP is trying to say, how many characters will there need to be in the game.

My guess is 35 to 40. Though, there is no quota. Just educated guesses.

There were 12 in SSB64. 25 in Melee. They doubled the amount of chars for Melee, but I wouldn't bet on it for Brawl. A little less maybe?

nobody here that we know of knows what the quota for brawl realy is, that is something between the developers, sakurai, and the guys at nintendo funding the game.
but my personal quoto for the game is 45 characters, but I am guessing nintendo's is 37+

Neither do I and I'm trying to give it a chance. But if this is going to turn into a roster number guessing thread, there's already a thread for that, and this will be...well, closed with a request to use the search engine again.

I personally want at LEAST 40 characters in the game, but it might only reach 35. There are 23 characters released so far. My guess is that everyone from Melee will return except for about 2-3 characters, and maybe 1-2 more third party characters. And then at least 10 more newcomers. That makes the roster about 37. If the amount of characters was completely up to me, there would be about 7 third party characters. The final result would be about 45 characters.

How many characters should the game have? that is what he is asking, I say no more than 40 otherwise movesets would get repetative like they did in melee.

It's the same thing. =\ Besides, it's his responsibility as a mod to do this stuff. Otherwise, SWF, or at least the Brawl threads, would be just like GameFAQs. -.-

I think you guys are guessing to high with 40 in your minds. I hope I'm wrong but the way things are looking, 30+ characters is definately possible with 23 announced so far.

Things you have to consider:

Icons, will all get a character? (I think not)

Icon 19?
More 3rd Party Characters?
Number of reps per series?
Plus returning characters.

Well, it was a suggestion on the minimum amount of characters people are expecting for Brawl. But now, I think it's nothing more then just to fill up your quote for locking threads. You've got about 10-15 per page!

I'd say the "quota" is "significantly more characters than in Melee".

There were 12 characters in SSB64 and 26 in Melee (14 more). So I'd say brawl should have at least--oh crap: 26 + 14 = 40...

I only want as many characters as they can do well. I don't mind tiers, and I definitely don't think that tires don exits, but I thought that melee tiers were too far apart. We don't need characters that are virtually unplayable when both people are reasonably good. I also, of course, want the characters to be fairly diverse. I never had that issue with melee (I'm fine with clones, in moderation), so I don't expect Brawl to have that issue either.

Wow. Even though I dislike most of the moderators here at the SWF, even I have to draw the line somewhere. That was probably one of the most inane things that I have had the misfortune of reading. GTFO and go back to GameFAQs. Or something.
