Quick question about the super scope

Ok so there is this guy who tells me to hold the L, R or Z button + holding the stick forward while someone is using the scopes rapid fire on you and your character will go closer to the enemy, this seemed to work on my gamecube but then I tried it again with another friend of mine and it did not work, any idea of what could have happened?

That's just DI. It only works when you're getting hit and taking damage, so it won't work with your shield up. You only need to hold forward.

well yeah thanks man the thing is I would like to know if this works in all of the smash bros versions? I'm not sure if it does work or I'm doing something wrong
