Quick Logic Test Question with DVDs and DVD drives, I'm blanking.

(i'm blanking and I like making forum posts so I can have them for reference in the years)

Anyway: So I have this laptop I just restored, and it has a DVD-RW drive (i think it burns dvds, I'm not sure yet, dont have nero or anything on it).

If I put a DVD in the drive, and the cpu changes my DVD-RW DRIVE into a CD DRIVE, and there is no data on the cd when I explore it, that just means I need to format the dvd, right?

Cause it's read a few, but most of them it's not reading, although it WILL read on a desktop I have.
