Since PM is basically Melee with more characters and just better functionality in general, why hasn't the Melee community switched over yet?

Also, do you think the 6 gods would still be the 6 gods if they switched over?

There are still differences significant in the upper level when you switch, and top Melee characters do have changes.

People are used to Melee, and people are used to only worrying about 8 MUs, and people are resistant to change.

And Project M isn't finished. People are, as I said, resistant to change, and Project M is still changing. People don't want to commit so much of their time to a game or to a main that may change in the future and negate some of their hard work.

I don't think the 6 gods would still be the 6 gods if everyone switched over. They would probably (hopefully) swap characters from what they played in Melee, and the evolving meta would probably make it so that there would be less dominance. Besides, the gods are losing traction as being "untouchable" anyway.

because melee has multiple characters that have broken ass design. PM chose to not retain most of these qualities.

tbh, watching high level melee is more fun than PM because things are so broken

Because PM isn't "basically Melee with more characters and just better functionality in general". It's more like a sequel to Melee, a new game that builds on its predecessor but with many key differences. Many of the new characters have shaped the meta in a different direction, it's not always as balls-out aggro as Melee is known for, and there's a lot of janky matchups to learn. Stages change a lot too, and create some polar counterpicks. And there are various tech differences, light shields are gone but now we have footstools, DACUS, and glide tosses to think about.

Some people will welcome the new changes, but others prefer Melee the way it is. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's all a matter of opinion. It's not going to be for everyone.

As for the gods, all of them have played PM and they win a lot just from their raw fundamentals, but I've seen them get caught up on matchup unfamiliarity sometimes.
