I play as falco and my brother is always saying how cheap it is that i can just stand by the edge and spike him down at any % with dair. I think fox's shine off the edge is just as "cheap" but anyway isn't there a way to get up from falcos dair?

I've seen it in videos where a falco did 3 dairs and the first 2 the fox could react really quickly and do a firefox back up

That's only at really low percents. But he can (and should) be able to ride the stage and tech the dair after 35% or so. You can usually do it fine by just DIing into the stage but occasionally you may need to smash DI it. I often just tech to immediate side B and it usually works fine.

Look up "OMFG Mew2King" on Youtube. Fairly early in the vid, M2K walltechs a couple of a Falco's Dairs in a row and makes it back to the stage.

if you do it fast enough, the SDI 'teleports' you close enough so that you hit the ledge if you ride up it..if you are just comeing from the middle of no where, you can only survive at low %

Not only that, but in most cases you can ride the wall to make it so your already close enough to edge tech. I mean don't get me wrong, dair is an effective gimp. But it rarely works in pro play for a reason. That reason being, good foxes rarely put themselves in a position to get easily dair edgegaurded. If you keep dieing to this, you should look at what your doing that makes it happen so much and fix it.

Your brother needs to learn how to ledgetech. It's definitely one of the more difficult advanced techniques, and I still can't do it anywhere close to 100% of the time, but Falco's dair is relatively easy to tech. Just angle the up-B so you ride along the stage, hit R about a third to halfway through the firefox distance, and angle the control stick left and down. The autosmash dI is enough to tech the dair at lower damage but at higher damage you need to smash DI the dair, i.e., slam the stick toward the ledge during the stun frames of the dair. Also if you hold X/Y during the tech you will wall-jump which makes avoiding a second dair easier since you now have lots of options to get back on the stage. Your brother can also just try sweetspotting the stage but it's sometimes hard to do this.

What I do is the following:
1) up-B at an angle such that I ride up along the stage edge and sweetspot, if possible.
2) Prepare for the possibility I miss the sweetspot. This means I hit R a little after the firefox starts, hold C-stick down and left, and hold Y.
3) slam the control stick left and down when hit by the dair (or anything else for that matter).

By holding the C-stick toward the stage you will autosmash DI the dair, and by slamming the control stick you will smash DI. The C-stick is backup in case you miss the smash DI, so you will still get the autosmash DI which at some % is enough to save you.
