Question about B > recovery.

Learning how to use Marth. One of the moves I'm trying to do is the fastfall off the side to F-air, then get back safely; according to the vids I've seen, this technique is very useful for gimping spacies off the edge due to the pause before their third jump. So here's the scenario that too frequently occurs when I practice this move:

I run and fastfall off the right side, do an F-air, use < B to get closer to the stage, then use my third jump to successfully get back to the stage. During the < B, Marth gains a bit of vertical distance. This is key to my question.

Then I run off the left side edge, do an F-air, and use > B to recover. Once again successfully, and with the slight ascent that is key to my successful recovery.

Then, when I try to go off the right side, I do the F-air, then try to < B to get closer to the stage, Marth descends instead, resulting in my inability to get back to the stage.

The question is, what causes < B recovery to result in Marth's ascent sometimes and descent some other times?

And one final request, keep your flames to yourself. Thank you.

Only the first overB in the air will cause you to gain initial height. After you have used it in the air, you have to reset it by doing another jump and landing without overBing. For example, after doing an overB in the air landing then wavedashing, it will be reset.

You could have used the search function for this.

All you have to do is go through the landing animation (either by jumping, wavedashing, or up Bing) to reset your "floaty B>" It will not reset if you land while doing an attack, or do a no impact landing, so make sure that you reset it using the above methods (except up B, cause that would be stupid XD). Also remember that if you landed on the stage after your up B then your floaty B> will be reset, so if your knocked off you can use it again in your recovery.

Phanna covered this topic with a video; as others have said, to "restore" your Dancing Blade, you just have to land on the ground without attacking. To do it quickly in your scenario, you can probably quickly jump onto the stage and then waveland back to the edge.

By the way, here's Phanna's thread on "restoring" side+B moves: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=109564
