My GENESIS 2 Money Match Thread
Hello and welcome to my GENESIS 2 Money Match thread! I want to meet and play as many people as possible at this incredible three-day experience, so I figured I'd set up this here thread to help me accomplish just that!
Here's a short auto-biography and the goals I plan to accomplish at GENESIS 2 and beyond!
Alrighty, now let's get down to business! I'm accepting all Money Matches up to $10 in both Melee and Brawl, best-of-3-style (you can also request a best-of-5 MM if yer in the mood)! You can expect to fight my Mario in Melee and my Kirby in Brawl! Just so ya know, I stick out like a sore thumb haha. I'll be the pale Mexican kid reppin' my yellow QuesoKirby T-Shirt! I'll keep an eye out for all y'all!What’s up, my Smash brothas? For those of ya that don’t know me, feel free to call me Queso or Dakota (my real name, GASP)! I’m an aspiring seventeen-year-old Kirby and Mario main from sunny SoCal itching to prove to myself and the world that I’ve got what it takes to be the best Smasher the world’s ever known! I was incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to travel to the first GENESIS back in the summer of ’09, and upon facing top players such as Mew2King, JMan and Cactuar I realized there was a long road of improvement ahead of me. I lost every set and every single game. Rather than get discouraged, however, I felt invigorated like never before. I stood right back up, and decided that this was something worth fighting for. I made a promise to myself: I would practice and practice until I became the best Smasher in the world!
There are many reasons why I play. The biggest reason is simply for my love of the game. I’ve always enjoyed playing Smash, ever since I was a wee tater tot, don’tcha know! The fact that I could make Mario, Link, Kirby and Pikachu fight each other all on the same screen just amazed me beyond belief. Thinking back to those good times reminds me that in both victory and defeat, I’m playing to have fun, above all. Trying to make a living through Smash isn’t a good investment of your time or effort. It’s an unstable and tense way to live, and there are far better sources of income if that’s what you’re interested in. Plus, I guarantee you that someone who plays out of love for the game will have far more dedication and drive than someone who plays just for cold, hard cash. My philosophy is something along the lines of what Sky mentioned in the video “Why We Smash?” on YouTube, and I’m gonna quote him, because he says it far better than I could:
“Ya know, you have all these things in life, and you let this just be your hobby. And if it takes you farther, for whatever reason, then go with it.”
The second reason I play is to meet new people. I’ve always been the quiet, humble and softspoken type, mainly because of some painful experiences I went through growing up. I felt as though all the friendships I made were doomed to end in failure, and pain was the only thing I could get out of interacting with others. So I grew up lonely and distant from people to avoid that pain. I shut myself away from the world in hopes I could avoid the problem entirely. Now, though, I realize that the feeling of loneliness I grew so accustomed to was hurting me more than helping me. I realized that no one can go through life alone. It’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. So to reintegrate myself back into society and break out of my comfort zone, I thought, what better way to do it than through the videogames I grew up alongside? I want to get out there and meet new people. I want to create new friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime. I realized that Smash can help me throughout all this. Smash serves as a medium to bring people together. I’m hoping that, through Smash, I’ll be able to meet the new friends that I’ve wanted all along. So far, it’s been one heck of a journey, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without the friends I’ve made over these past few years.
The third reason I play Smash is for the fame and fortune. Everybody wants to be loved. Everybody wants to feel important. People hold the trait of skill in Smash to a high regard, and that’s something I value as well. There’s some really fierce competition in the Smash community, and the idea of being the best is something I consider worth fighting for. I feel like my drive in Smash will take me far, so I’m gonna follow Sky’s advice, and I’m gonna go with it.
So here we are today. GENESIS 2 is less than a month away, and it’s a life-changing experience I simply can’t afford to miss. It’s more than just a tournament. It’s a way to bring people together that share a common passion. It’s a way for people to prove their worth and fight their way to the top for a shot at fame and fortune. Me, I’m looking forward to both. I realize this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I won’t let it pass me by. I wanna go for the love of the game. I wanna prove to myself and the world that I’ve got what it takes to become the best Smasher the world’s ever known. I wanna make as many friends as possible, and form new bonds and relationships that’ll last more than a lifetime. ‘Cause, guys, whether ya know it or not, we’re all in this together. We’re a community. We’re a family. And now, through GENESIS 2, we’re gonna have ourselves the biggest and baddest family reunion in history. Now, my friends and fellow Smashers, let’s celebrate!
