I stumbled across this playing with a friend. Not sure if it's well known or not. It puts you on a different stage and allows you to beat up a punching bag.

Turns out, this is just the waiting room for local wireless battles. It's a useful tip if you don't have anyone to play with and haven't stumbled upon it yourself.

Start Game
Choose Smash from the main menu
Choose Group from the next menu
Host a game
Anyone
Choose a character and at least one other CPU (only 1 required)
Choose the stage (You can hold R optionally to change the music)
Voila

To get out, just hold L + R for a bit.

Edit: Fixed title and instructions

I fixed the title also, I don't want to be misleading. I think one of the tips that came up was about Smash Run and I misinterpreted it. I apologize for the mistake.
Not to be annoying or something, but you do realise the boxing ring is a stage in smash 3ds that isn't available in the demo, right..?

Yeah, I guess it turns out it's the "waiting room" for local wireless battles. My tip allows you to play by yourself. Or if you don't have anyone to play against, you'd probably never see it. Give it a shot.

The point is that you shouldn't call it the "boxing ring" when there is a boxing ring stage, just call it the sandbag or practice stage or something. Right now as it is, it's directly misleading.

Ooh, sweet. Never knew you could get to this without a second person. Good info.

I wouldn't like this because the sandbag can't be grabbed, if they made him grabbable maybe but the character you're practicing against should be able to be affected by everything you do, if you can't grab sandbag you can't practice grab combos and the like plus there's nothing really wrong with training mode, granted it's not available in the demo but it is in the full game so even if you could grab sandbag it'd honestly be a little redundant to give him his own little training mode.
