As a Brawl player, I've gotten used to doing a Dash Attack-Canceled Up-Smash with Attack set to R, but since Project M made it so that light presses on trigger buttons "activate" the button, I've had serious problems adjusting my timing.
However, I figured out a work-around that allows me to manage without having to change the timing. If you reset your controller (by holding X, Y, and Start for ~three seconds) and release the buttons while holding R down halfway (as far as you can go without getting the "click"), the R button will not register anything but a full press, making DACUS work like it would in Brawl (assuming you switch a trigger button to Attack to do it). I have little trouble doing DACUS as a result, since I don't have to switch from my Brawl muscle memory.
There isn't really much discussion to be had with this, but, I didn't want this knowledge to get swallowed up by the social thread. I wonder if this might make it easier for some players to powershield, too, but, I haven't tested it. Perhaps someone should!
