anyone have any tips on how to fight olimar with PT? he's freakin impossible to touch with those little crappy root plant man things that keep hitting you and his grabs are unbelievable...gahh..so frustrating...

Stay close to him and take advantage of Charizard's fire breath. Ofcourse you're gonna have to watch those grabs but if you stay close it'll be easier for Pikmin not to be latched on to you. Charizard alone, given that the player has enough skill, can counter Olimar. If you're tired of his grabs, beat him to the punch with Ivysaur's grabs. If you don't want to get hit as much, use Squirtle and make use of his aerodynamic movements. There are alot of ways to go about it, but the main thing to learn in my opinion is how Olimar fights.

Start with charizard, a good rocksmash will get him high enough to let you fthrow or bthrow him off the stage, then chase off stage with another Rocksmash or fair. Edgeguard afterwards!!!

As said above charizard alone can deal with olimar.

First off, I doubt you'll ever beat Olimar without the basic knowledge of things like his grabs, smashes and the name of the "little crappy root plant man things."

Firstly, they're called 'Pikmin,' and they're Olimar's bread and butter. He can't use most of his moves without pulling them out of the ground with his normal B move. I suggest reading up on the character's skills on the specific forum for that character. Anyways...

Just as is said above, his grabs are disgusting, because of the insane range they have. His smashes also have amazing range, leading you to be campy and range him, or risk it and stay close for easy punishes. If you're able to dodge an attack, punishment is a must. His smashes don't have too much lag, compared to Charizard's or Ivy's aerials, but getting into grab range with Ivy, or spamming short hopped aerials with Squirtle will get you on the right track. Keep Olimar in the air, and out of grab range if possible.

Charizard is going to give you a much easier time vs. Olimar, since he has some good range on his Fairs, and can bust some insane damage out on a properly spaced rock smash or Fsmash. since Char counters him so well, the only thing you need to worry about is being overly aggressive, or predictable. If you're making obvious patterns with Fsmash rock smash combos, you need to mix it up so you aren't predicted.

I'm tired. Hope at least a word of this helped.

Sorry to dissent, but I would have to make the claim that Charizard is the worst match of the three against Olimar. Check out nc-echo's guide, you'll find a few Oli v. PT matches: I'm not claiming to be an amazing PT or anything, but I find Oli combos that last for 60-80% virtually unavoidable when playing as Char. His fair has too much lag on the ground, and near the edge of the move only does fire damage (i.e. no knockback): Oli can shield grab you out of that. His dair is far too slow, his bair is nice, but Oli is small enough to dodge the hitbox; his nair is a joke trying to use as an approach against Oli. N-B is useless, he can DI out easily. Rocksmash is really the only effective move, simply due to either landing huge amounts of damage (a full hit), or a stun (shrapnel hit), resulting in an easy grab. Thus grabs are Rocksmash to some edgeguarding can work in a clutch (i.e. when you can't switch out), but otherwise squirtle's speed is far superior a match against an Oli.

Projectiled is right. You will have a hard time doing much vs. a good Olimar with Charizard. Squirtle is almost unquestionably the best assuming equal skill with each pokemon. Ivysaur can do well also but you will not do well with Charizard unless you are significantly better than the Olimar.

I found it pretty funny that the overall opinion is that Charizard is the best. When Projectiled told me about this thread I almost thought he was joking.

Projectiled is being modest; he is ridiculous. Watch this if you need proof.

Oh and don't think that Projectiled dominated that match because Karn is bad; he is easily one of the best players in NC.

so far after many practice matches...i'd have to lean towards projectiled...i like the squirtle/ivysaur matchup against olimar...but i like chars flamethrower to use as a really good edgeguard and rock smash (which if it doesnt hit olimar, will definitely take out a couple pikmin) thanks for all of your guys' help...minus templar rage heh
