simple question. Once I download Project M, can I use the Stage Builder? Or can I never use it as long as i have it installed?

You can never use the Stage Builder if you're using the hackless method. If you're using homebrew, you'd need to find the Gecko code that disables custom stages, and remove it.

If you want to use the Stage Builder in standard Brawl, you need to rename the /private/ folder to something else, so the game doesn't attempt to load the custom stage that boots PM.

Wher do I find this GECKO code and what private folder? Is it the one in the Project M files? Im very much a newbie at this. Because last time I tried to create a stage in Project M and when I went to Brawl, i would get a low toned, single noise as the screen froze, prompting me to unplug the Wii U and delete my SD card data and reinsert the files

First, which method are you using to load PM? Homebrew (you have the Homebrew Channel installed, and load from there), or hackless (you don't have the Homebrew Channel, and load via the Stage Builder)?

Download this tool (GCT Editor). Open RSBE01.gct in it (in the /codes/ folder of your SD card), and export it as a text file.
Open the text file, and look for this code:
Code:
046b841c 48000040
Delete it.
Save the text file, open it in GCT Editor, and export it to RSBE01.gct on your SD Card.

Go to /private/wii/app/RSBE/st/

If it contains a file called "st_080805_0933.bin" or "st_smashstack.bin", you need to remove it. If you don't have the /st/ folder at all, you're fine.

Did you find that specific code I mentioned, or some other code beginning with 046b841c? You're only looking for a code that begins in 046b841c, no other codes affect the Stage Builder.

The two codes are 046b8f5c 7c802378 and 046b8f64 7c6300ae
Those are irrelevant. Those codes are for the Stage Select Screen, don't touch them.

the 4.something update
"4.something update" of what? The current version of Project M is 3.02.

How are you looking for the code? You do know about using Ctrl+F to search files, right?

Also, you should edit your posts if you have something to add to them. Multiple posts in a row is against forum rules and will get you a warning if you keep doing it.

  • Launch the GCT Editor
  • File > Open > RSBE01.gct
  • File > Export > File name: rsbe01.txt > OK
  • Open in text editor (e.g. Notepad)
  • Ctrl+F > Search for * 046b841c 48000040
  • Delete what it finds
  • Save
  • Launch the GCT Editor
  • File > Open > rsbe01.txt
  • File > Export > RSBE01.gct

When you click File > Open it brings up whatever folder you put the GCT Editor program in. You have to navigate it to the /codes/ folder of your SD card yourself, and open the RSBE01.gct file in there.

No. Wrong file.

  • Launch the GCT Editor
  • File > Open > RSBE01.gct
  • File > Export > File name: rsbe01.txt > OK
  • Open in text editor (e.g. Notepad)
  • Ctrl+F > Search for * 046b841c 48000040
  • Delete what it finds
  • Save
  • Launch the GCT Editor
  • File > Open > rsbe01.txt
  • File > Export > RSBE01.gct
The rsbe01.txt file will also be in the /codes/ folder of your SD card.

Once you've done all of this, you should now be able to load the game and use the Stage Builder.

Alright then, thank you for the help. Now considering how goddamn long this was, im hesitant to ask this but...When i play brawl on my Wii U, it plays in 16:9 Widescreen. yet when I play Project M, it plays on 4:3. Any ideas on what to do?

Download this app, put it in your /apps/ folder. Launch that app ("Wii U Aspect Fixer") whenever you load the Homebrew Channel. It will reload the Homebrew Channel in 16:9 widescreen.
