I have a different theory for this, as stated in other posts quoted below, Slippy has a different idle animation, and a few other animation changes. Considering the smaller size of the PMBR team, I honestly doubt they would go through the trouble of animating a totally new character for an April Fool's joke unless it was eventually planned to be included. (Turbo must have taken some work, and although at first perceived as an April Fool's joke, it was eventually an alternate mode.)

I actually have a different theory when it comes to this, in favor of Slippy being a future character in Project M. As other users have stated, which I'll quote them below this, Slippy in the trailer had a different idle animation, as well as a few other completely new animations. Given the smaller size of the PMBR team, I honestly doubt someone would go through the trouble to animate all that as a "joke" for April Fool's. My guess is that just like how Turbo Mode was represented last year as an "April Fool's joke", that too obviously took some work to code, so they didn't want the concept to go to waste. (Hence it being included as an alternate mode in Project M 3.0.) If we see any more work done to Slippy as a "Easter Egg" in some video, any new animation, its safe to assume he'll eventually be a character in this game. Like I said, it just doesn't make sense for a team given the smaller size of the PMBR to use their time making a joke like that for the sole purpose of April Fool's, and they've done the above approach before with Turbo Mode last year.

There's also a specific jump animation on Slippy as well, when he gets gimped off Fountain of Dreams by Metaknight.

I don't believe slippy will make it in. The space animal archetype has already been so played out that it would be tough to come up with another archetype/ theme for one. Plus, if they wanted to have this hint at Slippy's inclusion they would've showcased some character differences besides the idle, running, and jumping animations. I feel like it may have been a slightly more elaborate re-skin, like Pokemon Trainer over Snake in the last April Fools day trailer.

The PMBR is also a lot more conscious of their character creating decisions than creating Slippy would imply, as that would be another space animal, and another character of similar identity/ style to a preexisting character.

I think this April fools is a reverse of last year. Last year Turbo was the truth, and the Pichu was the prank. This year, I think Slippy and Ike Climbers are the joke, and Ridley is the truth =3 PMBR is clever like that.

Hold R when picking Ice Climbers to play as just the lead Ice Climber (Solo Popo, SoPo. Or, if Nana is in the lead, SoNa.)

If Double Mode becomes a thing, I will play as Double SoPo.

Right, Popo is the boy and Nana is the girl. The lead Ice Climber changes depending on which costume you're using.

It depends on the color. White Climbers have nana in the lead for example.

the april fools video mind-****ed me, i swear i got a headache just thinking that freaking slippy might make it in, this is just a rant but i would really prefer a character that has not had any representation or another character for a series that has less than two (like Metroid, almost all of the characters there have their respective bad guys and if they don't its bc their game is different in some way, like falcon and olimar)
