Am I the only one who thinks the new song is rad?

I was wondering if any music effiecienados could help out and transcribe it or maybe someone from the PMBR/PMDT? :O

Yo, composer here. Thanks a lot, I'm really glad you like it! The positive feedback has been really encouraging, and it really means a lot.

I was going to transcribe the theme for one of the PMDT guys so he could play some guitar on one of the arrangements anyway, I could probably just get off my ass and do it now instead of waiting till the arrangements are in progress. I'm kinda busy at the moment though (more original goodies for Project M underway, other random one-off tracks, and a big show coming up in the next month), so a full transcription is probably out of the question at this point in time. It'd also be a LOT of work for me - I dunno if I'll ever have enough free time to rationalize that kind of undertaking haha. But how bout if I did a grand staff skeleton with melody lines up top, and map out the progressions with block chords on the bottom? Would that be good enough to get you going?

Yeah that'd be awesome! I could probably figure out the other embellishments and what not, I have most of the melody down but I would like to check my work. I do have some questions about the song also:

How long did the song take to compose?

When did you/PMDT decide to make a "Project M" theme?

What did other drafts sound like?

Are you doing more themes in the future possibly for Project M?

What other projects are you working on?

Now my dream is at apex for there to be a band playing the PM 3.5 theme it would be hype!

I'll get started on the transcription process this weekend, should be done by Monday! To answer some questions:

How long did the song take to compose?
The actual composition was kind of scattered throughout a few months. Communication between me and the devs (on both parties) wasn't the greatest until I was officially brought on board later in the fall. I started around March though, and finished the original draft of the composition around... late April? Maybe sometime in May. It's hard to say for sure when people ask "how long did it take you" because I often end up working on more than one thing at a time, so things get sort of broken up over the course of a few weeks/months. But if I had to guess on the hours I put into the original draft of the composition (the point where I started to the point where I wrote the last note of all the main ideas, prior to polishing), I'd say around 20 - 25 hours. It was the mixing that took the longest, since I'm still working with a pretty limited orchestral arsenal. It took a TON of instrument layering and processing, mixing, and mastering. It wasn't "finished" until just before the release of 3.5

When did you/PMDT decide to make a "Project M" theme?
I'm sure they've been wanting one for quite a while. I got in contact with one of the devs in... early February I think? It sounded like they'd been wanting an original theme for a while, though I can't say for sure. As mentioned above, I haven't been an official member of the development team for very long.

What did other drafts sound like?
Horrible :p Mostly because I didn't have any halfway decent orchestral libraries until VERY recently, and even then, I'm not set up very well for it (or at least not nearly as well as I'd *like* to be, but that stuff's expensive). I did what I could with what I had though! There were actually a couple different instances where I'd started and scrapped it, because what I had sounded... just terrible, haha

Are you doing more themes in the future possibly for Project M?
The hope is that we'll be able to have a pretty fleshed out OST for the game, with a few different arrangements of the main theme for various parts of the game. I won't say for sure what we're planning though, you'll just have to wait and hear ;)

What other projects are you working on?
Currently, I've got a remix album in progress, some one-off tracks I'm writing with the intent to play them live, an album of originals, and of course some other stuff for Project M. No other game gigs lined up currently, though I was talking with a couple guys making an RPG a while back. Maybe it'll pan out, maybe not. I usually keep busy pretty well though, and in the past I've worked with Capcom and co-composed a soundtrack for a side project headed by the former brand manager of Sonic the Hedgehog. I apparently can't post links since I haven't posted on Smashboards enough, but feel free to look me up on Soundcloud, bandcamp, facebook, and Twitter if you want to stay up-to-date with what I'm churning out!

Now my dream is at apex for there to be a band playing the PM 3.5 theme it would be hype!
Haha, probably won't happen this year obviously, but that'd be incredible :D If anything of the sort happens, be sure to let me know!

Did you also create Bowser's victory theme?
Nope, I didn't have time for anything else other than the menu theme (had to make sure it was squeaky clean before it went into the game). That was ComposinKid, the guy who did the music for the Roy reveal trailer. He's been mia for a while, but I'm hoping he turns up again.

Thanks so much for the support, it really does mean a lot :D

Transcription in progress, I had a busy weekend so it might not be done till tomorrow night/Tuesday morning, but I'm working on it

EDIT: Agh, sorry, probably gonna be another day or two. Severely underestimated how long this was going to take (see: how far my transcription chops have fallen, haha), and lost some progress through a crash. It'll probably be another couple/few days before it's finished up, my apologies!

So.. I finished up the transcribing, but realized I still can't post links heh. I'll bum around and find a few threads to comment on later, but for now I'm gonna hit the hay. If anyone wants them before I get around to having enough community cred to post links, shoot me a message and I'd be happy to send you the link to the folder!
