If only Project M was at apex this year =(Now my dream is at apex for there to be a band playing the PM 3.5 theme it would be hype!
The actual composition was kind of scattered throughout a few months. Communication between me and the devs (on both parties) wasn't the greatest until I was officially brought on board later in the fall. I started around March though, and finished the original draft of the composition around... late April? Maybe sometime in May. It's hard to say for sure when people ask "how long did it take you" because I often end up working on more than one thing at a time, so things get sort of broken up over the course of a few weeks/months. But if I had to guess on the hours I put into the original draft of the composition (the point where I started to the point where I wrote the last note of all the main ideas, prior to polishing), I'd say around 20 - 25 hours. It was the mixing that took the longest, since I'm still working with a pretty limited orchestral arsenal. It took a TON of instrument layering and processing, mixing, and mastering. It wasn't "finished" until just before the release of 3.5How long did the song take to compose?
I'm sure they've been wanting one for quite a while. I got in contact with one of the devs in... early February I think? It sounded like they'd been wanting an original theme for a while, though I can't say for sure. As mentioned above, I haven't been an official member of the development team for very long. When did you/PMDT decide to make a "Project M" theme?
Horrible Mostly because I didn't have any halfway decent orchestral libraries until VERY recently, and even then, I'm not set up very well for it (or at least not nearly as well as I'd *like* to be, but that stuff's expensive). I did what I could with what I had though! There were actually a couple different instances where I'd started and scrapped it, because what I had sounded... just terrible, hahaWhat did other drafts sound like?
The hope is that we'll be able to have a pretty fleshed out OST for the game, with a few different arrangements of the main theme for various parts of the game. I won't say for sure what we're planning though, you'll just have to wait and hearAre you doing more themes in the future possibly for Project M?
Currently, I've got a remix album in progress, some one-off tracks I'm writing with the intent to play them live, an album of originals, and of course some other stuff for Project M. No other game gigs lined up currently, though I was talking with a couple guys making an RPG a while back. Maybe it'll pan out, maybe not. I usually keep busy pretty well though, and in the past I've worked with Capcom and co-composed a soundtrack for a side project headed by the former brand manager of Sonic the Hedgehog. I apparently can't post links since I haven't posted on Smashboards enough, but feel free to look me up on Soundcloud, bandcamp, facebook, and Twitter if you want to stay up-to-date with what I'm churning out! What other projects are you working on?
Haha, probably won't happen this year obviously, but that'd be incredible :D If anything of the sort happens, be sure to let me know! Now my dream is at apex for there to be a band playing the PM 3.5 theme it would be hype!
Nope, I didn't have time for anything else other than the menu theme (had to make sure it was squeaky clean before it went into the game). That was ComposinKid, the guy who did the music for the Roy reveal trailer. He's been mia for a while, but I'm hoping he turns up again.Did you also create Bowser's victory theme?
Well you did nice work with this. I look forward to what you do in future releases.Nope, I didn't have time for anything else other than the menu theme (had to make sure it was squeaky clean before it went into the game).
