Heya, Alex here!

So, I mentioned awhile ago how I planned on getting a Wiiu at some point for Smash 4 obviously, well I will be getting a meaty paycheck tomorrow, and was thinking now would be that time, assuming my Thunderbird doesnt break down! (Had a small panic with the engine a few days ago, haha!)

So, my question to you, is if All I will be using the console for is Smash 4, Smash brawl, Monster Hunter, and Bayonetta 2, should I just not bother with anything higher than 8gigs? I thought I saw the Wiiu 8 gigs are being discontinued or something, so I would snatch one up used.

What all comes with it? Does that pro controller come with one (Since there are not GC controller ports, I figure that would be my best bet- what are your opinions on the Wiiu pro controller?!)

Will it be possible to run Project M on a Wiiu? o:

any advice will be useful and appreciated c:

Project M works on Wii U.

White Wii U won't get fingerprints and you can see it in the dark.

Black Wii U comes with a disc of NintendoLand. Since the Black Wii U is only an extra 50 bucks you're basically just paying the 50 bucks for the game. The Black Wii U has a special deal going on until 2015. For every purchase you make on the e shop, you receive 10% of the cash back in eshop points, so if ya downloaded a 50 dollar game off the eshop, you'd get 500 e shop points, which ya could spend on mario or sumthin. This deal only works with digital purchases. If you buy the disc of the game from the store, you dont get any eshop points.

I believe there's a special deal for a Wii U that comes packaged with Zombi U and Nintendoland and Pro Controller. But Zombi U and Nintendoland are digital downloads so ya get 1000 points (10 Bucks) for the eshop. Really Wish I had waited for this deal.

For game reccomendations,
NintendoLand oughtta keep ya busy for at least 50 hours. Much more if ya have friends, 4 or 5 players is insane fun. It has alot of single player experiences though too which I haven't even begun yet. Zombi U is the greatest survival horror, nuff said. Seeing this game made me purchase the Wii U so early.
Injustice and Tekken Tag 2 are also on the Wii U.
Some other games I've seen are Mass Effect 3 and Assassins Creed 3.

There's an amazing free app you can download on the Wii U eshop called the Rayman Challenges App. Basically ya go online and compete against other people's times in randomly generated parkour challenges. The amount of skill needed in this is crazy. It's like playing competitive melee online, complete with exploiting dodging mechanics to accelerate faster. But it also doubles as a demo with 5 player compatibility on 3 Levels from the upcoming Rayman Legends game.

You can use Wii A/V cables if ya don't have an HDTV, the Wii U comes with it's own HDMI cables. Man I need to save up for an HDTV too ;_;

Im more soo worried about memory usage, as the only reason I would buy anything from the store would be say..Melee xD

I added a bit more info to my previous post. Yeah the white one is a ripoff don't get it man. Look for bundles of the black wii u that comes with games or a controller. Only 5gb of storage on white wii u, after you update it.

I'm also looking to buy a Wii U soon. So does the "update" take away 3 GB on both systems? I got a very nice laminated 31 page packet from GameStop and this is what one page says:

Deluxe Set:
$349.99
Wii U Console - Black / 32 GB
Wii U GamePad (Black)
Nintendo Land
Deluxe Digital Promotion
Wii U GamePad Charging Cradle (Black)
Wii U GamePad Stand (Black)
Wii U Console Stand (Black)
Sensor Bar
HDMI Cable
AC Adaptors

Basic Set:
Wii U Console - White / 8 GB
Wii U GamePad (White)
Senor Bar
HDMI Cable
AC Adaptors

So the stuff in green is exclusive to the Deluxe Set. I was thinking, Wii U doesn't have too many good games out right now, and it's been a while since release. If I save and get the White Wii U and can spend that extra $50 on Sm4sh. Is the Deluxe Set worth the $50 extra if I don't think i'll be using that much memory, and is Nintendo Land worth the money? Amazon is selling Nintendo Land online for $20 and BestBuy is having the White Wii U Pro Controller for $25. So I think it would look silly having everything Black with a White controller.

Or you could just buy the white one and later get a hardrive.

Thats what im thinking of doing.

Nothing appeals to me in the Premium bundle at all..

Nintendo land means nothing....

Plus 32GB isnt that much more compared to 8GB..

Plus buying digital retail games are a rip off...i dont think i will ever buy a retail title digitally...but ofc they are sweet VC games but the only ones worth buying imo is Super Metroid and Maybe Kirby...

N64 & GBA games are coming but not for a long time..so its nothing to worry about ofc this is just all my opnion because im in the same boat! Im looking to get a WiiU hopefully by the end of this year.

Im in the UK another price drop just happened.

ASDA & Amazon are selling White for £150 & Black for £200.

Which is a fricking good deal!

Plus your gonna need a WiiU Pro Pad which is £30...Ughh....

The best thing vaue wise and long term wise (if you came for 1st party mainly)

Is to get a White WiiU & A Pro Pad altogether thats £180!

Nintendo Lands trade value is like £8...its not worth nothing..everyone trades it in...

The Cradle charger is bit appealing but i dont need it personally how my room is set up etc:

But i do like the the black colour over white for it (no racism xD)

Its up to you dude.

My opnion.

Digital Retail games are not worth it! Shop online Amazon/Play.com/ShopTo/SimplyGames/Ebay are the best sites.

Everyone loves VC games you would want some but they are few VC games on WiiU atm and most of them are not worth the money and memory atm

Plus they are all NES & SNES games which are a few MB so yoy can live with having a 8GB White for like the end of this year.
.then go buy a 100+ GB Hardrive and you flipping sorted dude RealTalk!
Plus there is no bloody account system for your purchases!

So theres not much difference if your WiiU breaks or your hardrice breaks...

Its up to you man..but this is my opnion and plan.

RealTalk. Think about it.

I just googled that and the Wii U has had 3 price drops in the UK?! WAT?
Do you think it will happen in the U.S? A lot of article are saying a price drop will never happen, but if it's had 3 there, then why not at least one here?

The White Wii U would only have 3gb of storage after downloading the current system update, which is required to even start using the Wii U. The storage space is only gonna get smaller if games start to include patches. I mean I can't believe that they advertise it as 8gb, theres a bit of a difference between 8 and 3. Though if the only thing ya download off of the Eshop is the free rayman app (which is incredible) ya should be good. However the app is only gonna be available for another month or so until the full game gets released in stores. I really don't download anything unless it's free or like a 30 cent NES game, I woulda gotten a white wii u for aesthetic reasons if only it had more memory, but I mean maybe someday I will wanna download a big game exclusive to the eshop and I won't have enough memory. External storage devices are expensive. 20 bucks just for an 8gb sd card. Hopefully in a couple of years we can get 32gb sd cards for a nickel. The buttons and usb ports on the black wii u are practically invisible which is annoying.

The Pro Controller sale ended yesterday by the way. Now it's 50 bucks again >.<

I doubt it because you lot in US were actually lucky you lot got a good price fron release im not sure if you have had any price drops but thing is for UK is that Ninty never released a official price for the WiiU in UK like they did in US...instead they said ''we will leave it up to the Retailers..''

And it was £250 white & £300 black on release which is absoultly a joke...but i still wanted one...that doesnt translate US currency to UK's at all...WE the UK got ripped of HARD!

its stupid because all Retailers compete against each other for prices and UK is the place were Ninty do the worse in Sales wise...i dunno why the **** they done that...

Plus we needed someone to take a stand and it was ASDA! in I think it was April or May they lowered the Price to White £150 & Black £200 to clear out stock because it just wasent selling...moments later Amazon copied...and withing 2/3 Weeks all was sold and the price went back up to £250/£300...

And then from Then on till just last week the price has been going up and down continuesly on Amazon and ASDA - Black going up and down from £240-£270 and White is like £200-£240.

But right now as we speak that sexy Massive April/May Price drop has happened again!
£150/£200 is soo good its steal reguardless of which bundle you get!

i check the prices daily i really wanna pick one up quick while its dirt cheap ASAP because i know once sales start picking up the price will rise...and not drop dowm again..

And that is very soon..be because games like

Bayonetta
Wonderful 101
Pikmin
DK TROPICAL FREEZE
SUPER MARIO 3D LAND

Will do that for sure...
I need to get one quick! Before September like...Ugh....

Lol funny story eh...

Dang just read that games downloaded from Eshop cant be stored on an sd card, although the save data for the games can, but if ya wanna save the game onto a storage device and load it onto the console to play, ya need one of those pricey hard drives. So far my wii u is already down 2gb just from the save data and patches from the 3 game discs I've played. If I was using a white Wii U I'd have to get an sd card. The white wii u is still a better deal after buying an sd card if you really don't plan on downloading anything.

Why get a SD Card not a Hardrive?

Surely you can store both the games and saved data on a Hardrive right?

If not then Damn Ninty...you out dumb yourself everytime....

I think it really doesn't matter seeing how ridiculously low both versions are when it comes to storage. You can always by external storage to increase space
I just opted for 32gig one and threw on a 64gig flash-drive.

Exactly! But does using a drive increase loading/saving times of games on it compared to the built in storage? Something i was abit weary about...

I think both versions will will preform the same i will say that if you get the 8gig version half of that will immediately be used up with the updates, unless Nintendo is now manufacturing WiiUs with the updates already built in.

Don't do it for a memory.

Honestly IMO Nintendoland is an amazing game if you live with anyone or have friends live nearby. It is an awesome game. Since I had opted out of the last generation of consoles (I got a Wii and nothing else, didnt even try to buy anything on steam), I now bought most of the popular titles digitally (Mass Effect, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Darksiders 2, Assassin's Creed) and quite honestly even though some of the games were kind of a dissapointment I can tell you that I've made back about 30 bucks with the Digital Deluxe Promotion and about 8-10 bucks with a Gamestop promotion I got from buying the Wii U Deluxe. Basically I am about 2-3 games away from actually gaining money for buying the Wii U Deluxe instead of the regular version.

If you're planning on spending more than 300 bucks on games then definately get the Deluxe, the promotion makes it well worth it.

Pikmin 3
Mario Kart 8
Wonderful 101
Bayonetta 2
Zelda Windwaker HD
Zelda Wii U
Smash for Wii U

Thats more than 300 bucks there, so I say its worth it.

Edit: Also, I cant stress the fact that Nintendoland is really good as a party game and totally worth the 50 bucks if you live with siblings or close neighbors.

Just for the sake of mobility. I carry my wii u over to my friends house every week and set it up over there. I don't wanna have to carry around a hard drive that also needs to be plugged in. The wii u already takes up two sockets, on socket for the console and one socket to charge the gamepad. I now see the benefit in the pro controller which can simply be plugged into the system.

Wait wait wait, I can just use one of those small usb flash drives right? Can I load games from one of those? I mean if I got a 32 gb flash drive I could save the games onto there. F$#@ WHY DID I BUY THE PHYSICAL COPIES!?! I SHOULDA DOWNLOADED THEM OFF OF THE ESHOP!!!! Man I'm missing out on 1000 e shop points now ;_;

EDIT: Flash Drives don't work, according to nintendo. You need a storage device that needs to be plugged in to its own power source.

Our price on release was better... but not that much. According to Google (ultimate source of information second only to Wikipedia) 250 EU/300 EU translates as 327USD/392USD. In the US the price is 300USD/350USD, so I don't think that's so different. The 150EU/200EU though translates to 196USD/261USD which is roughly 100$'s cheaper then what we are being offered now. Thus while you are right about us getting a better price from the start, I think the real factor here is something else you also mentioned. That being the whole recommend price vs actual price thing.

Pretty stupid Q but...you know.. (-_-)

This thread has been very informative. I'm looking to get a Wii U by the end of the year for all the obvious reasons. Rayman Legends, Windwaker HD, Sm4sh, blah blah blah. I think the black one is well worth the extra 50 bucks for 4 times the memory space and a fun party game. It'll be quite some time before I need more than 32 gigs.

Well actually...all in all..it comes down to prefrence...

If you like NintendoLand and your gonna play it and your into Digital Retail then Black one for sure.

I would like getting points i think digital retail is pretty cool..but Ugh...its just not worth it..

Games are £5/10 more expensive...and you cant smell the sexy plastic or trade em in down the line if you need to + you cant lend them to friends.....so not worth it imo....

Don't you only make money back if you buy it digital? I like my games hard copy so I would always buy the disc over the virtual save.

There are 2 usb ports in the front and 2 usb ports in the back.
So the 2 in the back would be needed for the hard drive. (1 to transfer data and power the hard drive and 1 to power the hard drive if it needs extra power)

The 2 usb ports in the front could then be used to charge 2 pro controllers.

I'm hoping the pro controller gets a redesign, with a microphone jack.

I went with the premium bundle and have had no regrets...

The charging cradle is useful. I haven't used the extra stand at all though.
NintendoLand is great. Kind of a minigame collection for gamers, with harder games, more content, etc.
The extra HD space is just nice if you aren't going to get too many digital games, and don't want to have to buy a HD (iirc, the 8GB model only has ~5GB space for that kind of thing, so an ext HD would pretty much be required to get many digital games like Trine or DLC like New Super Luigi, etc)

Also, on the digital games, the off-tv play feature (which essentially turns the games into handhelds) for Super Metroid, MM X, etc is well worth the cost, not to even mention save states, etc.

As for other games to get, Tekken is great if you like the series... the online works really well for me, Batman is good, Sonic Racing is surprisingly good, I've heard good things about Monster Hunter, and you have CoD, AC3, etc.

I havent even played Super Metroid.....
Why are you still at your computer typing instead of playing Super Metroid?

It is with much shame that I must admit that I didn't discover it's greatness until about 7 years ago. Don't let that happen to you... any more than it already has.

The Wii U Pro Controller actually plays SSB better than the Gamecube controller, I had the special third-party one that plays Wii Games. So get a Pro Controller.
