Practicing Spacing

I know there have been a lot of threads discussing how to practice marth when you have no1 to play. However, one topic that I don't think was ever brought up was spacing (quickly inform me if I'm wrong). I would like to know how one would go about practicing spacing when there is no1 2 play. Thanks is advance.

One thing you can do is try chaining FAIRs across FD and ending in DAIR. 0 - death. You'll need to master 2x SH FAIR first.

The spacing is different at different percentages and depending on the character's weight/falling speed. On semi-floaties to average weight characters you should hit with a sweet-spotted FAIR or possibly two, until the character is a good bit above you. Then you can easily hit with regular FAIRs across the stage, ending with a sweet-spotted FAIR to DJ DAIR.

Can also practice chainthrowing Fox/Falco, catching them in u-tilt chains, punishing with tippers when they try to leave the u-tilt chain, and starting u-tilt chains from sweet-spotted dash attacks.

Do this against Lvl 1 cpus. Anything higher will potentially mess you up against humans.

Basically what Shai said. Except the difference between a tipped fair and a nontipped fair depends on their damage and your position in relation to their's and also which move your planning on following up with.

Are you saying it's easier to get tipped FAIRs the higher the damage?

At higher damages the knock back puts them in range for a tipper if you are short hopping as far as you can.

As for me, when I have no one to play against I normally put on a level five or seven bot and try to just defensively spam SH double fairs. After a while you get used to exactly how far they have to be that it becomes second instinct.

Tipped fairs send the opponent upwards while nontipped fairs send them straight across and slightly upwards. Usually if they are below me with low--moderately high damage, then I tip the fair (when given the opportunity) and that gives me the space needed for the double jump-dair. For higher damage, I try to stay away from tipped fairs.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense. I generally go for a tipped FAIR if my opponent is about to touch the ground. For those perfect FAIR chains you need them in the air the whole time.

I thought you were saying the hitbox for tipped FAIRs actually increases with inreasing damage. =\

get AR (Action Replay) and learn the hitboxes of each move. Get comfortable with the size of the sword, so you always hit with the tip. Your objective is to be able to use an attack where you can hit them, but they can't shield grab you. That is when you are spacing properly.
